......is it all in your head?

Is there a God?

There is no solid proof (there may be evidence, but nothing to make it fact).

Even the religous type admit that it comes down to faith.

With faith we can only draw two conclusions. One there is a higher power we can connect to through our body, mind and/or spirit. Or two, it's all in one's head.

So is the central argument: Is the feeling of God real, or all made up based on knowledge and experience?

You believe that there is air or wind, there is energy, there is force, there is gravity, there is space. Are there SOLID proof in this things?

Can you give solid proof for the air,the gravity, space, energy and others?

You admit that air is existing to make us breath. do you think it came from your own head? or mind?

Im a Deist.

In my beliefs (which are shared by most of the Founding Fathers of the US), reason and science prove that there is a god, but all organized religions are wrong.

First, science proves that there is a God. Theologins are looking in the wrong place. Consider the thousands of scientific priciples and laws that must be exact for life to exist - from gravity to the laws of light to radiation. If any of these were 1% different life couldnt exist on Earth or any other planet. If gravity was stronger, stars would exhaust there fuels faster and life would not have the time to develop, if the magnetic forces were weaker, the planets magnetic field could not shut out the solar radiation, and so forth.

Next, aside from books and text by believers, there is no evidence that God has every interfered in Human events, thus the reasoning is that he is hands off, therefore while the poeple mentioned in various religeous texts may have had great things to say, they were not divine (which they never claimed, but in some religions -Christianity - was applied to him centuries later)

Basically, God created the universe, but has been hands off since.

When I was younger and my mom dragged me to church everyone always said they felt the presence of God. I never quite knew what they meant since I was a 7 year old who had never stepped foot in a church before, but after a while I decided I felt the presence of God too. Looking back on it I only told myself and everyone else that I did out of fear and wanting very badly to believe it was true.

I think it kind of works like that. Someone who is searching for an answer through religion is already confused and possibly afraid that there may not be a God or an afterlife. When you step into a church and everyone is saying they feel God and know he's there, and you don't already have your mind made up, you will probably believe you feel him too. Especially if you are searching for God and desperate to find him.

Also, if someone is born into a religious family and taught that God is real from birth they have a better chance of believing in God as an adult. Especially if they have overly religious parents and go to church regularly before the age of 7.

Jesus is the evidence. Jesus came in human form to show that God, God's power, rules, love is real. There was Jesus=God and man telling, showing, proving these things to us. Accept Him. He HAS given proof. Read what the first (real) Easter was all about and why. You have probably heard of John 3:16 read it and comprehend it.

As with many things, you have to decide this for yourself. Seek the Truth, and God will lead you to it. If you're looking for emperical evidence, you'll probably never find it, any more than science can produce emperical evidence of dark matter. In the end it comes down to what do YOU believe?

Yes, that's pretty much it...I had an interesting conversation a few days ago with someone who emailed me and insulted me because I had said I did not believe in god (or any god, in fact) and when I asked him for a concise argument as to god's existence...you guessed it, he just "knew". That doesn't work for me, I need to see concrete proof.

sir what fool cannot look at the creations and the elements and not see the works of the almighty God ...what do you want God to hit you over the head and say hey Mr i,m God ..God don.t have to prove one thing to you or any other man..now sir you can believe in a pile of dung , or remain a fool and unbeliever but you will pay the price of eternal damnation.. if your souls and life part chooses this it will be added to your charge....and you in the end will see clearly that God is a spirit and those that worship him must worship in spirit and in truth ...

Religion in itself so much steeped in various politics. "Faith" leaps that fence. The "higher power"... I believe exists... within each of us. In our daily quest for truth. It is up to the individual to find whatever truth makes the most sense. I believe in Karma. It has more to do with realizing the impact of ones own actions in a more immediate a concrete way.
"Faith" simply for its own sake can obscure certain truths That "experience has taught you.

God is very real. I've had things happen in my life that could only come from God.

I guess you could sum it up that way but it seems kind of hollow. I will take my God over whats in ones head any day of the week. besides I don't even know who one's is let alone whats in his head.
