Do I shove it in between the brakes? I just purchased a bike (Dahon Jack) and I have to mount the front tire. Do I need to remove the brakes?

You shouldn't need to remove the brake. There is a quick release to let off cable tension.

P.S Doesn't anybody check links? This one shows in great detail how to operate a promax type quick release plus all the other adjustments.

Maybe the down arrow is from somebody who hates people finding out these things.

The Dahon Jack comes with Promax V brakes. The insert and remove the wheel you will need to disengage the brake and then reengage. To disengage it, simply squeeze the two sides of the "V" together releasing tension on the cable. Then remove the long silver cable guide from the clip on the left side. The brake will come open and allow the wheel to be positioned. Simply reconnect it and you are good to go.
