God spends the first three commandments all about him. Then he gets to the fourth one about honoring your mother and father. Followed by murder, adultery, coveting, etc. etc.

Where is the commandment that you should not abuse your children or any children? Why is god more worried about coveting your neighbors oxen and could care less about molesting little kids. Is this the moral authority priests uses when they do it?

If there was a God, he would not let children be born with half a face, or missing organs, or profound autism, or a million other things which make their little lives wracked with so much pain and suffering. Not to mention the poor, innocent parents who have to endure the pain with them.

Take severe Autistic disturbance:

When one sees all these children UNABLE to comprehend why they tear at their own flesh, or UNABLE to stop banging their heads, or even enjoy a meal, let alone comprehend a malevolent supernatural being (called God) punishing it for the sins of 'Adam and Eve'? What is one to think? I don't believe a God has a 'special place' for these children, what kind of freak punishes innocents and promises them a better time when they die?

Many of these children have committed suicide, the pain of being alive is too great, or they don't have the faculties to be aware of danger.

After many years teaching children with special needs, I came to the conclusion that only a malevolent God would make such things happen.

Of course, the stock, unquestioning answer is "God works in 'mysterious' ways"

If that is so, then I prefer the word 'cruel'.

Dear the_cont,

Just because the 4th commandment teaches for Children to obey and honor their parents does not mean that God hates children. In fact in the same book of Deuteronomy where God gives the 10 commandments, he also gives the Israelites a reason to follow those commandments (simply put it was for their own good).

When we examine the idea of honoring and obeying our parents is it most certainly something for our own good? Yes. Statistics show that teens that run away from home (because they don't want to be under the authority and guidance of their parents) are over 100 times more likely to die- and die at a much younger rate. How many teens are pregnant and have regretted having "children as children" because they have not heeded the guidance of their parents.

There are other passages in the Bible which instructs parents to love their children and not to exasparate them. Just because God asks children to obey parents- does not mean that he condones abuse of children.

You say in your question that God cares more about oxen and less about molesting little kids. It's an unfounded statement. One does not lead to the other.

God most certainly cares about abused children. There are ministries and parenting classes in the church today. In terms of your last statement -- there is nothing in the 10 commandments that would condone priests abusing children.

Jesus put simply that all the commandments (beyond the 10 commandments) are summarized in two commandments: love God and love others. Simply put, molesting others would not be an unloving act.

No one has the right to molest anybody. And particularly if that person is following the teachings of the Bible- it is no where taught in the Bible that child abuse (physical, sexual, and mental) is allowed to clergy or laymen.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

If, and when, there is ever a point in time where a question emerges concerning the bible, religion, or their gods, it is important to remember that there will always be answers that will utterly contradict one another (as answers will almost certainly come from people on opposite sides of the spectrum). in other words, you will, almost certainly, not find a universally excepted answer here. But you can always find a more logical answer.

A STRAIGHT-FORWARD AND LOGICAL ANSWER
If you are speaking of the "God" of "The Old Testament" in the "Holy Bible", it is important for you to understand that this portion of the bible promotes worse things than molestation. And it also advocates such things as the killing of children for disobedience, the execution of homosexuals, genocide, homocide, incest, prejudice, etc., and many of these terrible things occurred under "God's" consent.
But before you begin to judge "God" for the things that are written in the bible, you must first understand that the bible was, and still is, a human creation. Every single letter from that book was placed on paper BY HUMANS. So if you were to blame anyone for what's written in the "Holy Bible", it should be the religious fanatics of the past, and present, that keep such a repulsive doctrine afloat, and at the top of the best seller lists.
Another thing you must understand is that "God" does not, and cannot possibly care about anything including children. "He" doesn't answer your prayers, "he" doesn't "carry" you through your misfortune, "he" doesn't bring you wealth, and "he" doesn't help you to avoid death. For how can "he" do any of these things, when he doesn't even exist.

There are many commandments in the Bible - not just the famous 10 most people look at most of the time. The most famous set of commandments can be found in Mark 12:30-31:
"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."

So you can see from these two commandments that people are supposed to respect God first and other people (including children) second. No one should molest or hurt children (obviously). And God does love children. There is no moral authority anywhere that anyone could use to molest or hurt children or anyone else for that matter.

If you read the bible very closely you will come to understand that Man made the Commandments. God would not be so brief with the positive meaning to Life. Remember we are here to experience the negative in life and when we're done we will all go home to the otherside and reconnect with others and share our experiences with each other. This life is not the real one. Ask God and you will be answered.

They were written by adults, not kids. If kids wrote them, they would have been a lot different, like "thou shall not limit thy kids TV time and shall not force them to study and let them be up doing what they please to...." or something like that, just much fancier than how my version comes out.

[Edit]

My God, I can't believe when I read the previous answers. "Others" includes children and implicit, but neighbors have to be explicitly mentioned. When am I going up to wake up and smell the roses???

[Edit]

Ok, read more answers. Ok, at that time, there wasn't much child abuse like it is today. So, they didn't think it was that important to be a part of ten commandments. Well, that's my best explanation, I guess.

If God hated children, there would be a commandment that instructed people to abuse children. Your premise is not strictly logical.

Of course, Christ came later on and said all sorts of things about treating children well, and about how we should be loving our neighbors.

When Jesus comes he tells the people about the eleventh commandment....
"Love your brother as yourself"
Jesus also tells about how blessed the children are. And that anyone harm them or make them stray from good is in deed in big trouble.
If you truly want to read about all the good things of God, read the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). They really tell the all the good stuff about God. The other books don't come close to telling the joy of God.
And as I say often in response to all the Bible-thumpers....,
Just ask God and he will give you your answers. Get the answers straight from the source!

Human beings by design are so emotionally sensitive, and that's why they LOVE to be dictated through an external source of motivation rather than having inner will originated responsibility.

And then *God* sent an email to *Moses* through a WiFi... "Thou shalt not let human beings *uck each other...give them those 10 commandments"

Do you even read the New Testament? Paul commands parents to love their children and raise them to live godly lives. God commanded children to obey their parents why? "That your days may be long on the earth." Does this even make sense to you: "I hate children, so I'll tell them what they need to do to have a long, prosperous life"? Yeah, sounds like hate to me (dripping with sarcasm). Priests do not molest children by any moral authority any more than any other child molester. Please, try to make sense.
