I listen to some christian music. I only listen to those who are singing the truth in their songs. Some songs sound good but they are not singing words of truth. Words mean things. This earth was created by the words of God. If it is not His word sung in truth I don't listen.

When choosing secular music, a christian has to make sure that the lyrics are suitable and will not hinder their walk with Christ. If we can follow those guidelines, we will be fine with secular music.
I've been listening to alot of secular artists like:
Daphne Loves Derby, Rookie of the Year, The Panic Division, This Day and Age
As far as my favorite christian artists goes:
Underoath, Anberlin, Relient K, Sub-Seven, Emery, The Almost, The Chariot, Falling Up, Sullivan, House of Heroes, Joy Electric, Dead Poetic.....could go on forever.
I run a christian music radio show (details in my profile), so we discuss a ton of christian music, and topics relatable to this.

Thanks for asking!
I've recently begun to expand my musical horizons.
I listen to Christian music, but I also listen to other music. Examples: Linkin Park, Evanescence, 3 Doors Down, Thousand Foot Krutch, The Postal Service, Manu Chao, and Natasha Bedingfield, not to mention instrumentals.
I find that I generally like only a few songs from a given artist or group. The exception is probably Linkin Park.
I don't really have a favorite genre. I think there's great songs in every genre (not that I've heard them all).
Personally, I like to think that I like music that a) sounds good and b) says something that is positive, or that at least makes sense. If it's a positive message about God, so much the better!
May God bless you.

I prefer Christian music to secular music because it helps me to stay focused on God. I would have to say that Michael W. Smith is at the top of my list of Christian Artists.

I've been a Christian quite a while, and I listen to LOTS of kinds of music. Everything from contemporary Christian to rock to jazz to new age. I listen to what makes me feel good, or makes me think, or makes me feel. I really like Celtic music a lot, though I don't have a lot of it in my collection. I'm a huge fan of the Eagles, Little River Band, Fleetwood Mac, Doobie Brothers (hey, I grew up on this stuff and it's still great!). I also am very new to jazz so my knowledge of and experience with it is pretty limited. I like some classical, but I'm real picky (Mozart probably favorite composer, but Beethoven wrote my favorite classical song). I don't like alternative rock and hip-hop/rap. Can't stomach them. But I do like R&B, and love 60's and 70's Motown sound. In fact, love most of the music in pop/rock from the 50's up to (but not including) the 90's. After the 90's I just can't really get into it, with a few notable exceptions. U2 wrote one of my favorite songs (Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For). I pretty much run the gamut of music. In Christian music I really like Steve Green and Ray Boltz. In metal I like Molly Hatchett, and have been known to enjoy Ozzy from time to time. I like Enya's music, and Lorena McKinnett. I like Alabama, Kenny Rogers, Vince Gill. I like Gordon Lightfoot and Nancy Griffith and John Denver. LOTS more too.

I like all kinds of music--60's, 70's & 80's rock, country, classical and Christian/old hymns/praise &worship. In those categories, there is some music I don't like. I don't like hard rock, heavy metal, hip hop, rap, drinkin',wild women & bars type of country, hillbilly country (like Buck Owens,Hee Haw type), Christian rock or rap. It really comes down to particular songs--I just take them one at a time. I like lots of different artists/bands: Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Alabama, Kathy Troccoli, Steven Curtis Chapman, Point of Grace, Ray Boltz, Alan Jackson, Keith Urban, The Judds, Pachelbel, Handel, Vivaldi, Beethoven,............. you never know when I'll change the station! lol

that's for sure as a lot as you as a listener to make your concepts up how a lot you're inspired by the words of the music you pay interest to. yet that being reported, for most folk music is music. i'm answering this as a Christ follower so i visit assure you I comprehend the position you're coming from, because that's in preserving such as your beliefs and convictions which non-believers only does no longer consider. I actually do not have self assurance that's a sin to take heed to secular music. i love the technical factors of music, or perhaps with the reality that I only locate maximum vulgar music distasteful, i do no longer avert listening to it due strictly to its content. there is tremendous music accessible, and in case you relish and are not inspired by its opposing perspectives, relish the mass of skills interior the secular marketplace. All this being reported, there are tremendous bands accessible that are frustrating rock and metallic that DO worship God with their music. So if you're inspired by lyrical content and for my area opt to avert secular music (it extremely is carefully decent) attempt listening to bands jointly with For in the present day, Disciple, Spoken, Love and death, Righteous Vendetta, and so on. wish this enables!

My favorite is Relient K. They have an alternative sound and they aren't overly preachy.
I also like Coldplay. Although they aren't a Christian band, they do have positive, Christian-themed lyrics in their songs.
