I am signing and swearing in on Wednesday and Thursday to the Navy. I want to know how will I get up to Great Lakes? And is this the only Boot Camp for the Navy? Thank you!

Yes once you take your oath of enlistment at MEPS you will be given a bus ride to the airport and air plane tickets and travel orders after that you will get on a plane (they also give you meal vouchers for air port restaurants) you will go to the USO office in Chicago o hare INTL than from there a couple petty officers will come put your *** on a bus and take you to great lakes naval training center. ... Yes you are provided transportation to basic training. Yes Great Lakes is the only basic training facility for the Navy. There used to be 3. Recruit Training Command San Diego, CA; Recruit Training Command Orlando, FL; Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, IL. The other 2 were closed in the 90's.

shadow is exactly right. and prepare for 3 days of non sleep and total hell. and walking in a straight line with tons of other people getting shots and being medically tested up and down. Yes there is only one boot camp and it is in Great Lakes. And prepare for the worst humidity you have ever experienced. You will also get to go into a gas chamber with tear gas and have to take your mask off and say you name and ssn number. And of course you will get travel to Great LAkes you will fly United Airlines. ANd once you get to Great Lakes prepare for some yelling!

Military will provide transportaion.
when I elisted in the Army they flew me from Los Angeles.CA to Charlotte,NC then bussed us from airport to fort bragg.
Then after the shots and everything was done there the transported all of us to our boot camp down at fort benning, GA.

Marine Corps transports their own recruits to boot camp. I would guess the Navy ships their own recruits to basic training, as well.

The Navy should give you the location of the nearest military facility that they would like for you to be dropped off at.
I don't think that you will have to get a ride to the great lakes.
If you aren't sure, just ask your recruiter.
The Navy should go out of their way to be sure you get to the drop off point they need you at.
( At least they did that for people back when I was around 18 years old.)

All I had to do was get to the airport.
The rest was taken care of.

They sent me a travel voucher for air from Reading, Pa to Louisville, and a bus ticket from LV to Ft. Knox.
A military cab took us to the reception center.

If you have enlisted, and don't show up, I guarantee that you will soon have a ride to boot camp. Just wait in your front yard.
