* When did this start happening?
* What changed between when nothing was wrong, and the PC freezing up every time?
* Does this happen "at random", or when you run (or try to run) a specific program?
* Do you check for spyware / adware (and other crapware) on a regular basis? (If not- get AdAware and/or Spybot S&D - both free)
* Do you run an antivirus program? (if not, get AGV or Avast, again both free)
* Do you run defragmentation on a regular basis?
If nothing solves this - make sure you have a good backup of all your important documents, and re install the computer completely.
When adding new programs, add them one by one, so you can determine which program causes it.
