I was excited to meet this new guy and it turns out we click well...when I was getting ready to go out my dad came up to me and said that guys are shallow and that if I didnt' loose more weight (I'v lost 50 lbs) that no one would ever love me. I think he was just trying to tear at my self esteem becuase he doesn't want me to 'leave the nest' so to speak. I can't help but wonder...is it true? Is weight such an issue? Is a size 14 really that bad? Come on guys...what are your honest thoughts?

People seem a bit unsure when I say size 14. Size 14 is about a size 32-33 (waist) jean.

Firstly, I'm male and weigh around 65kg (don't know that in pounds maybe 140 or so) and I like women who are a bit larger (not obese) but size 14 is fine. You'd be surprised at how many men actually find thin women a turn off. Some men are shallow yes but not all. When you click with someone, looks kind of disappear.

Yep pretty much all guys are shallow but the question isnt how shallow the guy is... It's how deep is he? In today's culture its almost impossible to not look at women for their appearance. But I believe more guys look at girl for who they are rather than what they look like. And I bet most guys would rather settle down with a girl who is nice rather than a girl who is attractive. But the problem is too many guys aren't trying to settle down they just want to be with someone as a temporary fix so looks are about as deep as alot of relationships go. These are the guys who are remembered and who stand out among the crowd which is why guys get a bad name when it comes to being "shallow". The world is superficial and thats why relationships are the same. As for me I don't know what a size 14 is but if I had to choose I'd rather be with a girl that is overweight than underweight.

Well I will but in here! A size 14 is just average. I know I am a 12/14 depending on outfit. And I for one can't stand my size. An 8 or 10 is more ideal. Not too small, not too big.

When i am at my normal weight which is 104lbs I'm 5" tall very long blond hair down to my butt. Because i am so short
if i put 30 lbs on that is a lot for me. I hardly get looks when the weight is on me.So yes the weight does matter a lot.I'm a size 8 and i can't stand it.

Its not that guys are shallow (take it from me... I'm a guy!), but the first thing to attract people is looks, THEN personality. If the looks arn't there... you're in trouble. Of course, everyones standards are different.

Its true!!! Thats why you see fat people dating other fat people, and skinny people dating skinny people. Ugly people date ugly people, and attractive people date attractive people. Thats just how it is... with little exception!!

The better you look, the better looking the guy you'll get. There is nothing wrong with that!! Either way it doesn't mean you can't be happy... weather you are skinny, fat, ugly, attractive, doesn't matter... happiness is out there!! Go find it.

for the most part, size 14 doesn't mean anything for guys (we have no imagination for that sort of thing). And yes most guys are shallow, not always about weight, but usually about something. sorry, but that is honest.

Sounds like a typical dad to me... if you comfortable in your weight stay that size!! I do not think you father should be putting you down about your weight though...talk to your mother about it...or another adult...in any case.. your boyfriend is the one you choose...not your dad...and if he is shallow...well you will know better next time

Not all guys are shallow, they just take a while to open up.
