I just have a crush on him right now, but if things ever work out to be serious, and I find out that he is a Torah-observant Messianic, should I start to follow the Jewish dietary laws (Leviticus 11)? We each believe the same things, the only difference being his Jewish background. So it wouldn't be like I'm changing my beliefs, just the way I eat. What would you do?

He's not requiring me to do anything for his faith. He knows I'm a Christian and have never followed the dietary laws before. He wants me to do it only if I feel that it's what God wants. It wouldn't be an impediment to my life, or my health.

Messianic Jew= Christian born a Jew; a Jew for Jesus.

Here's the thing. When I actually studied the verses in the new testament where paul tells people to eat whatever they wanted. I began to think that he literally meant everything. But when you look at the context of the scripture, it is actually talking about food offered to idols. I kind of flip flopped in my mind about what was really going on. But coupled with the old testament, it is clear that there are some animals that God never meant for us to eat. Even Noah knew about clean and unclean animals, and that was way before there were any Jewish laws. Eating unclean meats does not make us ceremonially unclean anymore. That was fulfilled at the cross. But we do have a moral obligation to present ourselves as a living sacrifice and to remember that our bodies are a temple for the holy spirit. We need to take care of them. One way to do that is to abstain from unhealthy foods. That also includes a lot more than just shellfish and pork.
There was law that was nailed to the cross. It was the ceremonial and civil laws. God's moral laws remain. Taking care of our bodies is part of the moral law. If his beliefs include that, then great. He might be on to something. Besides what do you have to give up? Blood, pig, snails, mice, ants, catfish, elephants, kangaroo? Can you handle that?

Ther is no such thing as a standard set of Jewish beliefs in this modern world.

And in any case, observance of the old laws has no place in the Christian life.

Forget about them.

We live by grace, not by laws.

The best case scenario is that of your boyfriend someday becoming a Christian.

Everyone, including our Jewish brethren, must declare their faith in Jesus to be saved.

Nothing less will do.

And a Christian girl adopting Jewish practices only muddies the waters.

Don't change just because you have a crush, you will end up regretting it in the future, and resenting the person for whom you changed for. Find out exactly what he believes and how he observes his faith and rituals.
There is a lot more to being Jewish then what you eat. I think you need to look into it more. You may believe the same thing on the surface, but I assure you, it is not even close. You will have to change a lot more than how and what you eat.
Personally, if the person can't accept me for who I am, then I don't want to be with them.

Nothing wrong with going by Gods laws about eating in leviticus. Its a healthy diet of food. There are Christians who are not Messianic Jews who follow this diet from the bible. God had a reason for it and its beneficial for our health. There is an author named Jordin Rubin who wrote a book called The Makers Diet that is available even at Wal Mart. Google "Biblical foods".

If I were you id turn around and walk the other way. It is very well known that jewish families will not accept non jews into their families. Unless your thinking of converting. The id say go ahead and start with following the dietary laws, its not like its bad for you.

It's best not to make religious decisions based on the beliefs of other people. If you feel personally compelled to observe Jewish dietary laws on your own, completely independently of this person you've got a crush on, then do so. But if you don't feel that way, then your motives would be unsound.

"Messianic Jews" are people who blend Jewish customs into Christianity. It's a form of deception, and so rejected by honest Jews and honest Christians.

Bottom line: You're Christian, and he's Christian. Live and be well together.

Judaism and Islam is passed down from mother to child. A man who marries a woman a Jewish or Muslim woman is expected to convert to the wife's religion. The opposite is not true at all, to my understanding. You've got no obligation to change.

And you did say crush, right? Maybe you'll dig gefilte fish, maybe not. You'd best not get ahead of yourself here.

Just open your heart to what God wants to tell you.
In my opinion following those laws is just being too religious. What really matters is having a true relationship with God and putting Him in first place always.
Well Good luck, just be yourself, if this guy likes you, there shouldnt be a problem.
God Bless!!!!

There is no need for you to change for him, he is a christian just like you... Jews never push religion on others, if they do, they are not practicing Judaism, and so their religion is not Jewish... If you beleive in jesus, guess what? You are christian!! so is he, and there are no diet laws on your religion...
