When I lye flat on my back I get a severe spinning sensation which leads to nausea. I aso get a lightheadedness when bending over. On occassion when stading upright I feel a bit of heavyheadedness, but the main spinning comes from lying flat on my back. Symptoms have been around for about a week. My doctor prescribed a antihistime to prevent nausea. He did this without seeing me. Has anyone else expereinced this recently...could it be viral?

I wonder if it really has to do with your back, or... if it could possibly be an inner ear thing. If you've had allergies lately, it could be an equalibrium issue going on in your inner ears. I know I suffered with severe dizziness for about a year or two, and I finally found out I had crystals in my ear. I know that sounds weird, but it happens. The condition is called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, and can be cured extremely easily usually by a special positioning procedure that a specialist can perform (a special head tilt procedure, nothing scary). I know that dizziness can really cause nausea. I don't know about an antihistimine for nausea though, that's really for allergies. Phenergan is a miracle drug for nausea. I usually only take 1/4 or less, because it works so well.

But you do need to find out what's going on. If I had to bet, I'd say it's an inner ear thing. But get your doctor to do an mri with contrast for your spine and back (don't worry, doesn't hurt; it's like an x-ray). If they don't find anything, then have your doc send you to an ear doctor, and ask them about crystals in the ears (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo).

If you've been in any accidents or rough sports games recently, let your doctor know. And maybe if your doctor won't listen to you, seek advice from another doctor. Anyway, try to have this taken care of within two weeks; don't suffer too long, okay? Hang in there, I know it sucks.

I have experienced this too. For me it doesn't happen every time though. On and off. My doctors said it was a slight case of vertigo. If is persists and happens every night, they said I'd need some medication. Maybe you should check with your physician to see what they think. Don't just take a med without being seen. Tell them the whole story. It could very well be an infection and a nausea prevention pill won't cure that.

Go to the doctor. Tell them everything. It could be something far more serious than you think, but could be just an ear infection. Why take the chance and risk it. I'd rather be safe.

i'd ought to believe multiple the posts on right here. a snooze is the terrific concept. although in case you will sleep for greater then ten or so minutes i'd propose taking an asprin, a B12, and eating a brilliant glass of water. this would help preclude a hangover day after immediately.

I had something that sounds just like this.
You may have a viral infection of the inner ear.
A doctor can cured mine within a few days.

Happened to me when I had too much to drink. I just kick the legs of my cot down and sleep with my head above my feet . The other guys learned this from me. funny , on Saturday night after midnight, you would hear the bunk beds get their feet kicked down. that was in germany about fifty years ago. works.
Oh try sleeping in a recliner.
