You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide,
You still have made a choice!
You can choose from phantom fears,
and kindness that can kill,
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose free will!

Aside from the fact I've just quoted Rush, how do you feel about those lyrics? I'll be honest, at some point in my life, that portion of the song made me choose theism, for some reason, I'll never know.

Tell me, what are your thoughts on that portion of the song?

Vicarous cynic. Read my details. I admited I quoted Rush, therefore credit has been delivered. Thusly, there is no violation. Nor have I included the song as a free download without compensation to the artist.

Hi.
I like the lyrics. But they seem to be rooted in a Christian saying that has been around for years: "Not to decide is to decide."

When you say that a portion of a song made you choose theism, it would seem that you may be swayed easily by the next good song that comes along with lyrics that may point you in a different direction.

A choice like that needs a stronger foundation than a song lyric. While I'm happy that you chose theism, vague as that may be, your lyric-based faith is likely to be easlily shaken in the midst of a trial.

Personally, I find that nature screams of a divine creator that cannot be denied by any sane person. My inner being concurs that the divine creator is indeed the God of Abraham.

I hope the foundation of your faith is a firm one, for the enemy will certainly put it to the test.

Thanks for sharing and take care!

most of us feel we have freewill and make our own decisions, and it may be true to an extent. what many do not take into account is the reactions they have which are influenced by past experiences. when one sticks their hand into a fire , their physical reactions is to avoid that pain. so too with the ego which seeks to avoid emotional pain. those who live only in ego, become reactors, not doers, although it feels like freewill and free-thought to them, they are simply conditioned, " reactors". there are probably only a few truely " freethinkers" and the rest of us build religions around them.

those lyrics make me think that the lyrisist believes that if he doesn't choose a path or believe in a path, he will have free will, but he wasn't taking his ego in to count

Oh man, that should be a sharing violation. Rush.

Aside from that - I do like the lyrics. Choice connotes decision, decision connotes accountability. Hows that for a trinity?

If you choose not to decide,
You still have made a choice!
That was cool. Never thought of that before.

Hmmm, made you choose theism? Odd, when I heard that song I thought the exact opposite.

Maybe the words ready guide, and celestial voice, were what pushed you in that direction. Jesus is the guide, and the celestial voice is God, urging you to follow your guide. That may not be what the writer meant, but it sure seems that way.

...The lyrics...err...

They confuse me. The message is all about choices I guess, and the freedom to choose. It's not really about beliefs and more about choice. In essence, choosing is one of the few freedoms we have. I mean, even when you believe in God you are allowed free will.

This song didn't have quite the same effect on my as this song:

Mr. Clean gets rid of dirt and grime and grease in just a minute,

Mr. Clean will clean your whole house and everything that's in it.

Mr. Clean Mr. Clean. Mr. Clean.

I hate Rush, so the lyrics mean nothing.
