You are witnessing a self-test feature and this is normal operations. Were the light to remain illuminated after starting the vehicle it would indicate a problem in one of several "indication" systems that may or may not be apparent to you and you should seek maintenance.

When you first turn on the ignition before you start the vehicle, the instrument panel does a self test and lights up all the gauges. Nothing to worry about, unless none of the gauges light up.

hey what a coincidence, i was reading my owner's manual yesterday and i read that everytime you turn ur key to power, it will say that. its just a test, if u have ur manual read the instrument panel pages, and u'll see. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT, EVERY GRAND CHEROKEE DOES THAT. (1999-2004)
