monocot...its flower parts are in 3/6's, it has parallel veins in the leaves. It has its seed in 1 part (if it comes from a seed rather than bulb) and has a single cotyledon "leaf" when it germinates (rather than 2 in dicots)

Count the petals. If it is multiples of 3, it is considered to be monocot.
If it is in multiples of 4 or 5, it is cosidered to be dicot.
