The moon seems to comfort me, and I feel like I have a spiritual connection with it. I'm not really sure why, and I would like to know if there's any real significance.

FOR thousands of years, men have believed that the moon governs aspects of life on earth. It has been thought that the moon’s phases have an effect on plants, animals, and even humans. While some long-cherished notions have been disproved by modern scientific research, other beliefs persist to this day. What do the facts show?

Some people are convinced that there is a connection between the phases of the moon and the growth of plants. Thus, they use calendars and almanacs in deciding when to plant flowers, spread manure, bottle wine, or make preserves. This is done in the belief that if certain tasks are performed during the wrong phase of the moon, the quality of the product will be compromised. One source offers this advice to gardeners: “Vegetables to be eaten fresh should generally be picked during the waxing moon, while vegetables to be preserved should be picked during the waning moon.” Is there a scientific basis for this practice?

Some studies seem to link the growth of plants with lunar rhythms. However, many scientists are not convinced. They point out that lunar rhythms are complex, they are not completely regular, and their effects are not marked, so it is difficult to replicate the experiments upon which the studies are based.

Certain lunar effects have been verified, however. For example, it has been shown that the activity, feeding, reproduction, and biological rhythms of many living organisms are connected with the tides, which, in turn, are directly influenced by the gravitational force of the moon.

Some claim that if the moon influences the tides, it must affect humans as well, since much of the human body is water. And what of the supposed relationship between the phases of the moon and mental disorders, the time of one’s birth, and even the menstrual cycle, the length of which is approximately the same as the lunar month?

Studies have been undertaken in the fields of psychiatry, psychology, and gynecology to get to the truth of the matter. The results have been inconclusive. Some researchers claim to have found slight correlations between human activities and lunar rhythms, but others state flatly that there is no link at all. They argue that if lunar cycles had a marked influence on human births, the connection would have been clearly demonstrated long ago. What is more, none of the theories proposed to explain the supposed lunar effect on man have convinced scientists in general.

Although science has demonstrated that the moon has some effect on the various forms of life on earth, the extent is not easily determined. Our physical universe is complex, and at least for now, many of the marvelous mechanisms that regulate it remain unknown.

Some ancient cultures believed that women are connected to the moon. A mestral cycle is 28 days, and the cycle of the moon is the same. They believed the moon controlled our bodies like it controls the tides.

This is not all that uncommon. When you think of it, most of our bodies are made of water, and the Moon controls the tides, so it is natural that it will have an influence over us. Then you can add in the fact that the Moon cycles every 28.5 days, similar to the cycle of a woman.

This is why we Wiccans use the phases of the Moon as one of the symbols for the Goddess, and all women are a part of the Goddess.

Do you get the same feeling when you stand on the earth or breath in air?... Interesting you should mention this though; now I'm weirded out about everything, even the matter that makes up my body was once worn by and will soon be worn by another organism. The thoughts that fill up my head were once and will again some day be some other persons worries and concerns.. Deep.

OMG i love you.......(kidding) For me there sure is.... the moon effects the coming to the tides. Ancient Arab people used to worship the moon when they noticed this connection. Some people believe it effects moods. I don't know about that one. Some animals do hunt more during the full moon.

Any way...... I love the moon.

The moon represents (in part) the ' reflection ' of our own selfs...the deeper, real sense of who we are.

I see your more interest in and connection with the moon to represent that you are not afraid to reveal your real self and wonder of the realness of others.

The moon expresses...a warm luminescent glow...inviting...peaceful...romantic...by gazing at the moon it can enhance the openness of a persons expressed emotional environment. The luminous glow of the heart...the soul. That is spiritual...and a bright element to be authentically connected with.

Yes as the snake sheds it skin to be born anew so the moon sheds it's light to be born again. It throws off death every month and has new life. Like a woman and her 28 day cycle. Very good.

You may be tuned in to Wiccan energy, since the moon is traditionally associated with the Goddess. There are lots of websites with information about Wicca, an earth-based belief system that is not associated in any way with "witchcraft" or Satan. Blessed be!
