Hmmmmm I know youre not really judging here but, worshipping God is between you and Him. If you are totally comfortable why not. I pray to God at night in my jammies. I pray to Him naked in the shower. You get what Im saying. And I know what you are saying. We have two services at my church. A traditional and contemporary. Yes there is the dress code. Peace out.......

I personally can't afford a suit, besides I can't stand wearing a tie anyway. However I do make an effort to dress decently, dress pants and a nice shirt. But at one point I was working overnights in nursing homes and would actually go to church in my scrubs, either from lack of time or energy to get changed. I never really caught any grief for that, my saying was that I didn't recall a dress code in the bible. I've found a solution to how I dress for chruch I joined the choir, so I wear a robe over everything:)

As long as you dressed decently, it doesn't matter. Most people think of church as "visiting" God one day a week, so they feel the need to dress up. God is not into appearances, it's nice to dress up sometimes, but God doesn't love you more if you're dressy. My pastor addressed this issue one time and preached the sermon in shorts and flip flops to make his point. I thought it was great. You're not showing up to impress God, everyday of the week is the same, don't be uptight about something so insignificant. At my church, some people come in suits an ties and some come in jeans. Wear whatever makes you comfortable, if you wanna be dressy that's fine, but there's nothing wrong with casual.

It's a good question to ponder on. But when we dress up for the president, we do it because we know we'll be judged if we wear something that is not dressy. So we don't want to be judged by people. But when we go to church, God would rather have a person in rags with an open, prepared heart than a nicely dressed person who doesn't have an open and prepared heart for worship. Sure, its not bad at all to wear clean clothes and look proper.
But that should be the least of your worries when attending church. Why are we at church? to look presentable in front of people or to be presentable in front of God? Plus men can judge what we wear, but God won't. =P Like with a fiancee's parent, I would be nervous and want to make a good first impression because I know that if i dress poorly, they'll make some judgement about how enthusiastic i am to be there, etc. But God is not like people where he has to look at how they dress to see how important church is to them.
He can see by their hearts, not by wardrobe.
Maybe for some of those people, what they wear may represent their lack of ethusiasm for church. but we wouldn't know. =)

Um, why should you care how people come dressed for worship, as long as they show up to do it? That's kind of elitist and Levitical of you. Back in the early days of the American west, women really only had maybe three dresses, a house dress, a work dress, and a Sunday Best. They wore that same dress every week - do you think anyone said "Oh look at Mabel, wearing that same old dress again?" Honestly.

what does it matter? OK, so it is more respectful to dress up a bit, but would you really look down on a bum if he decided that he wanted to come to your church one day? I guess you probably would. Do you think that God cares more about how someone dresses for church, or for how judgmental your being right now? I do know one thing though, I would never want to come to your church because I know that I wouldn't be welcomed and that is not an atmosphere that God would approve of.

Be grateful no matter how people are dressed when they come to church that they are coming to worship and accept the salvation and the relationship that is offered to them. Don't judge them for they way that they are dressed. Let that be something for that person to take up with God. Love them for who they are and treat them as they are well dressed in Sunday best. Jesus would have not noticed their clothes but their hearts. That is what is important. Salvation and fellowship and bring people to Jesus is more important than their pajamas they are showing up in. There maybe people who have nothing else to wear to church. God may have told them to show up in their pajamas. As far as you know of that could be his will for them for that morning. Love one another and witness to one another no matter what they are wearing. Beneath those clothes is their heart and soul that cries for your attention more than their wardrobe.

I love it when Christians have your attitude about how others dress.
I was asked to leave a Church about three weeks ago because of how I was dressed, after laughing I made sure I gave them a tithe and a "God bless you" as I left.
I drive a truck for a living and because of limited space, and because of the job I have I don't have suits with me. I showed up for service that morning in a pair of jeans (not ripped, or dirty, they were clean and ironed), sneakers and a tee shirt (again, not ripped or dirty, but clean and ironed).
Apparently God doesn't love people who don't wear suits in some churches...personally I don't think of churches like that as Gods "sacred house" (as you put it). I thought church was a place to worship, fellowship and learn. Not a fashion show.

Your observation is correct, K-Nitrogen:
Jesus condemned people from flogging their religion in public, like preaching from the street corners.
Because the Bible says: Blessed are the meek for they shall Inherit the earth, perhaps they are flogging their humility by wearing rags.
Certainly if they had no means of wearing something better, God would accept their humble offering, But He had Israel wash before coming before Mt Sinai--instant death was the penalty.
The Bible was very specific on what the priest wore before God in the Tabernacle. White linen garments, that did not make you sweat--yes, underarm deodorant would be in order, too.
One should show respect in the presence of God, you see, reverent and holy is His name.

Oh get over your self, The Bible says bring your burdens to me, come as you are.
If you could go across the world an see how the poor go to church, what most people find at the bottom of the closit is more then most have,
Christ says I come to give life, he says for us to be clothed in salvation, and the beautiy of Holyness. If I come dressed in shorts, but love everyone I come into contact with, share my meal deal with the hungry, visit the poor, and people who are locked up in a hospital room or jail, then the bible says I have done this unto christ. The dress code is what you say? Its in the heart, not the body, flesh and blood wont enter into the kingdom, only that which is spirit, and that my friend is the heart, and attude. God is a God that can be tuched, and talked to, no matter the clothing. My God loves me in a swimming suit, in a country cut offs, and even neaked, If I dont show forth the love of Christ, I am not his.
The Bible was written in a day of many rules. If you go over to home land where it was born, you will see women waring head coverings, and clothing covering the whole body. Its a type of bondage man gave them, Jesus says I come to set you free, and whom I have set free is free indeed,
Your attutude towords his creation, is your heart. Jesus would love them, he would eat with them, its sad u c when you have that leadership curse on your life, your never happy are you. Let the joy be full, care free, in Jesus, let Jesus dress them, Not you. Let the word be breath and life to you, weather it is to them or not, the word says shine your light to the world of love hope and faith, not judgment, condement, and harsh words. Delight yourself in the lord and he will delight in you. Your the salt not the pepper. come on, God created man, not man. Let the Heart of God in us, teach our minds to serve God with fear and trembling befor him, and not tell him he created junk. An try to point the junk out in people but bring hope to the world, its bad enoff as it is, without someone pointing an saying did you see that, that is murmoring and complaning, and it could be another 40 years in the wilderness befor you find the promise land.
