Hell is a very real place and far more terrible than you can imagine. Nevertheless it is not the fear of hell that converted me to love God, but rather the realization that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, suffered the agonies of hell in my place, willingly, in obedience to the Father, so that I wouldn't have to experience it for myself.
Such a God as this I will love and serve forever!

I was raised a Methodist, but was invited to an Assembly of God church once and treated to a spiel about how horrible hell was at about the age of 10, just for the children, how sweet! All I remember was thinking something like "this lady's kinda weird." Hell never made sense to me whether its scriptural or not anyhow but it always left me with a guilty paranoia for even existing. Now that I'm old and a happy deserter of the faith, I know that it was just one of many of the absurdities that caused me to stop pretending and start thinking like a rational human being. I see there are some Christians on this questions who claim that they have no fear of hell, which I think is a ridiculous and smug statement. That's a statement that only someone that does not believe that it exists can rationally make. If they truly have no fear of hell, they should not be afraid of the consequences of not believing.

hell is out there, somewhere it could be here I am not sure but i am very afraid to go to hell. There is a fact there is good and there is evil that is a given .so you would think that there is a place for the evil and a place for the non-evil the devil or Satan runs hell and he is very evil he can make you do things you should not and it makes him happy when you do bad. so he can get your soul. but let me tell you a secret bad go to hell and good go to heaven, BUT Jesus is not going to leave them for ever he will pull them out of hell one day but he said if everyone knew this they could do bad and know one day they would get out of hell , but the suffering you go through while you are there ,I know I don't want to go to hell....and yes it has a lot with me being a christian. And yes i was taught about fire and brimestone since as far back as i can remember.

I fear hell and anyone who doesn't needs to get their head adjusted. You better be right if you think hell doesn't exist.
Look at the horrible things that happen in our world today and always have. How can those who say that God would not let hell be real, truly believe that after reading the newspaper a few times a week and seeing the evil that is here in this world. Surely we should understand that there is a separation of evil and good. Hell is evil, Heaven is good.

I suppose there are many Christians that fear hell because some preachers use this to scare you into believing. The Southern Baptists I think are noted to having that method.
I have heard many teachings, but Jesus clearly said to be not afraid. Hell, possibly does exist and I could tell you at length if I had the time many things. My knowledge tells me after many years of study, that we hold spirit energy and as we learn to be (more), our energy raises and we become closer to the Pure Love Energy of God,as we seek him with our heart and desire to walk in faith. What we do in this world seems to pile up energy on us. This is called karma and Jesus explained it as " As you sew, so shall you reap. So say you were born and they you decided to be evil and when you passed over to the other side, you will attract the same evil energy that attaches to you. That is why he said to build up your treasures in heaven, not on earth. If you believe in his words, you will realize that the door to heaven is open to those who follow after him and work on self mastery which he showed the way. The more good you are , you will be drawn to that energy after you die. There cannot be hell unless you make it.
It does not have to be fire and brimstone in the next dimension but you can go to a place like you imagine or ignor based on the Thoughts , words and deeds you are responsible for. There are many levels of energy, Which one do you wish to be attracted to? I am not frightened of hell because I know I will not be there. I have a promise that a place in heaven is being prepared for me so why would I let some preacher scare me into believing when Father God wants you to come on your own free will. Belief preceeds reality. He stands with open arms, I was lost and now am found. See his parable of the Prodigal son. Rev. TomCat

Hell is not a place of eternal torment by burning and fire!!!! It is being cut off, dead, not existing! No, that talk (before I studied the bible) nor the truth about what hell is influenced my decision. It was genuine love for God and his way of doing things. God doesn't use scare tactics- terrorists do!

I am a Christian and I am not afraid of hell because I know where I am going when I die. I never had this talk. The choice of becoming a Christian was mine. Yes, my whole family is Christian but my parents never had that talk with me or my brother. When becoming a Christian you shouldnt be scared into it.

I don't remember what age, but I do know my mother put "the fear of God" in me! Since I have grown up, I no longer fear, I just love God and the promises He made to Me.

I heard the fire and brimstone story all the time when I was a Christian, now I consider it extortion.
