Yes, I do think we should all be on the same page as far as language, English was spoken here first, a majority of people speak English so I feel if you want to immigrate here you should either know or learn English as soon as possible. The march might wake up congress to do something about the invasion of illegal aliens in this country. .

This is what I think --

As a full-blooded member of the Lakota Sioux tribe, I personally would not recognize any foreign language as "official" in the United States. English is a foreign language, as is Spanish, French, and all other languages that have arrived here by plane and ship since 1492. I also speak Lakota, and would defy any law that states that English is the *only* language.

I have been very anti-illegal immigration for 20 years. Illegal aliens should all be deported, when they are gone language would not be a concern. Changing immigration laws to make learning English mandatory for legal immigrants who are lagging behind would also help. Businesses were not offering bilingual services until the illegal alien problem grew out of hand. Get rid of the illegals, companies will no longer need bilingual signs, and services in America.

english should be the main language in this country. In order to live and function here, you should have to learn the language. If you want to be bilingual, more power to you. I don't care if people speak their own language, but they should also know english. We live in america.. not mexico!! Do you think other countries have people speaking another language all over and not learning their own.. no way!! so on that, i do think everyone who lives in america should put forth an effort to learn english. But i do agree with your second point.. all immigrants coming to this country should be legal. illegal is illegal!!

No. Americans need to learn foreign languages. Europeans speak at least 2 languages, many speak up to 5 even. Its just part of life.
We should learn french and spanish just so we can communicate effectively with our partners up north and south.

Back in the 1980's before immigration was even a big issue, it was mandatory to take at least 1 language course in my highschool, and in college it was also mandatory.

Many americans can't even speak english well and they were born here. Education in general would be nice for the pro single language idiots here.

Perhaps we should speak the language of this nation instead....apache!

American taxpayers spend hundreds of millions annually providing translation services, printing ballots in 16 languages, and giving driver’s exams in 22 tongues. (Multiculturalists never question the insanity of facilitating voting by individuals who can’t read the Constitution in the language in which it was written, or follow candidate debates on television.)

It's been a long time since the people of America were of one mind and one accord. That was during the time we were willing to use a common assimilating language -- essential to fostering trust, eliminating fear, and inspiring cooperation -- the essential elements needed to construct the greatest nation on earth.
What now? A confounding of the language will undo it all.

But then, that's the goal. Reduce the nation to shambles so it will fit right in with the rest of the neighborhoods in the global nation.

Having two languages in a country is a recipe for division, or do we want to follow the example of Belgium? I bet if you opened a business which stated we will deal exclusively in English, customers would flock to it (no more Numero Dos para Espanol etc). What's the matter with English being the official language?

If English is NOT the official langauge, why is Spanish the other option? Why not Vietnamese? Or Chinese? Or Gaelic or Italian?

I don't think that it will change anything, I really wish it did.

English should be our only language.....why do I have to press 1 for English.....that wasn't the case 15 years ago.....

I hope the marches help...it is nice to see Americans trying to preserve our American way of life.

It should be the official language. You want to speak another language in your own home thats fine, but learn english to get by in the USA. Our ancestors had to do it, so should the new batch of immigrants.

It's a noble cause that represents the wishes of 99% of Americans, but who knows if it will do any good. Politicians have weighed their Constituional obligation to represent their constituents against getting votes to ensure the perpetuation of their powerful position. So far, they've opted for the latter. Maybe if they realize that the American vote can still win out over the seditious illegal advocacy groups, they will listen to us. It's just too bad we can't appeal to their sense of duty to country, because they really don't seem to have one.
