No... You can support the troop but not support the war.

As many Marines/Soldiers have said before, "If you're going to support the troops, you might as well support the war or don't support any at all".

Well the story Ive been getting from the people I know in the service is that you cant support the troops and not support the war. It's like saying "I support you but I dont support the things youre doing". They go over there to fight and die and its important to have some respect for the act of warfare and the warrior.

Supporting the troops is not supporting the war. The reason people need to give our troops support is so that they can keep their faith and their will and know that they are not alone, that we support the fact that they are risking their lives, even if we don't agree with the reason that they are there. The troops need to know that we are standing behind them. So, that if heaven forbid something was to happen to them, they don't feel that they died for no reason.

Short answer, yes. I believe Dennis Miller once said, "Do I support the war, you better believe I do till they all come home". While some will scoff at such a thing, and I know I will get thumbs down on it, there is a reasoning to such thinking.
Back during the start of Vietnam when JFK was still running the show, and we were just there as advisors, a soldier was taken captive. At the time of his captivity, America was still very much behind it's military, and had not been jaded yet. While he was there he was constantly tortured. He was told that the "humane and leinent" treatment he received (no medical treatment, torture, and having to watch comrade die) could not continue unless he could show progress in being re-educated. That all the leaders of the front expected of him was to open his eyes to the evil of his country and how they were wrong to be in Vietnam. In return for his signing a statement to that effect he could get food, and possibly even go home. He lasted five years until he was rescued. As punishment for not signing statements disloyal to the US he was stripped naked and left in a cage by the river. At night the mosquitos decended on him, and in the morning he was bitten so completely over his body that he was unrecognizable. During the five years his captors showed him pictures from magazines depicting the protests at colleges, many it turns out were funded by the NVA for use in propeganda. Imagine if it were you, and when you left you had the support of America. What kept you going was faith in God, Country, and Family. If you were made to doubt faith in even one, what effect would that have? Luckily he held on until he could escape. But should he have had to endure that doubt? I believe that saying you support soldiers but not the war is the same as saying you support cops, but not catching rapists.
You can thumbs me down, I don't care.

Ask yourself this- Are the people and the cause the same thing?
No, they are not the same. You can support the troops without agreeing with the war they are fighting for. The only people who will tell you they are the same are the ones who claim liberals hate America, and hate the troops. Don't buy it.

No it doesn't have to be. You may not support the war but can feel that troops on the ground should be afforded and need the best resources available to them. Fox News, by the way, is not real news.

Ask all the military personnel you know if they watch FOX news.... Every troop I asked said that is pretty much the only news channel they watch.

I just asked an anti Iraq War troop this past weekend, and he watches FOX as well.

I know this may seem not to make too much sense for the question you are asking, but think about it for a few minutes...

there is alot of questions about this and it's a really heated debate but times magazine did a really long article on this and there was an extremely high percentage of service men and women that supported this war and of course they are the military but if you don't support there cause and what they do is right then you are kind of going against them meaning you don't support there cause or them so i think it's just a heated debate that won't end

No, they are not the same thing. Many people do not want this war, but support the troops for being there under orders.
In other words, we may hate the war, but we can't hate our military personnel for doing what they're told.

No. Most Americans do not support the war in Iraq. They want the United States to bring the troops home.
The American people do support the men and women in uniform, they want them to be safe, they want them out of Iraq, they want to take care of their health care and other needs they may have once they are home.
