>In case you hadn't taken time to notice, most of Humanity isn't very lovable.<

I can't think of any good reason "why not".
It is a little harder some days though.
Ramesh makes a good point that when you feel good about yourself, your life, and your relationship with God, it's easier to feel good about others, and radiate those qualities out into the world....When people start scapegoating others one way or another, it seems to happen more so in a situation where people aren't getting thier needs met, lack of education, bad economy, lack of a support system, it seems to get more pronounced then, and they may have an "authority figure" who would rather prey on thier fears, than offer any actual concrete help.....all the more reason to try and help them, if possible...or at least continue to try to love them, even when they seem bent on being unlovable. Hard to do in practice though. As Geezah said, it is harder when you have someone who is bent on being unlovable, doing so in your face. But then loving humanity as a whole, and dealing with an individual are two different things. Out here, I am able to overlook alot of the stuff that goes on.... I don't know any of these people, and they don't truly know me either. I recognize that some of these folks out here are doing things they might not do in the real world, and it's a reflection of "lack" in thier lives.... It's a lot harder when you have someone like that in front of you, and some days turning the other cheek can just get your other cheek slapped, or even get you stalked and harrassed. But that's about individuals, not Humanity, if I am having a problem with one member of a particular group, that doesn't mean I have to condemn a whole group. It means one member is having problems.
Tony reminds us that cultivating a good sense of humor is a critical tool in dealing with such things....:)
As Coffee said, "love" with the expectation of being "loved" in return, is not really love, but more a form of commerce. Love without the expectation of something in return, is love.
We all need to Love Humanity, but be realistic that some individuals are just not going to understand it, appreciate it, or love us in return...

Someone can love all Humanity if (s)he wants to.

I think the critical point is not loving Humanity and that's it,
but loving Humanity without requiring this love to come back from Humanity.

There you can find the meaning of true love

This is not a perfect world unfortunately, so there will always be bad people and bad situations where love is not going to resolve a conflict. Only in story-books does turning the other cheek win the day.

Because not all of humanity is interested in loving me; some of them are trying to kill me.

I agree.
Unhappily, Christians often feel the need to qualify this. "Love the sinner, BUT..." As soon as you add a 'but' to that sentence, you usually start ignoring the first clause.

Because not all individuals are deserving of my compassion and attention.

I'm a courteous fellow who gives people the benefit of the doubt, but if they prove themselves to be trouble makers, I want no part of them.

I wish but unfortunately the preachy God people will NEVER stop trying to brainwash us non believers. There is no way they will ever do anything but preach and whine and huff and puff and get all flustered until they rule the world.
