You can undo the negative aftereffects of those greasy fries with a proper diet and exercise. Cigarettes do irreparable damage to the body. All of the healthy diets and exercise in the world cannot atone for smoking. Don't smoke.

Time is the most important variable to consider when answering your question? How much carcinogen or trans fat are you getting over time. Think about this: We have people that eat McDonald's fries or something equivalent everyday and people that smoke at least 1-5 cigarettes or more a day. The chances they won't have caused any damage of that year is very high. Maybe 10-15 years and then we might have something to talk about.

My advice to you would be this. I have been working one-on-one with people on lifestyle modification for a while. Moderation on the fatty foods and quit smoking or if you don't, please don't start. I believe the first answer also drives the point home.

God gave us life to enjoy smoking 20 to 30 cigarettes a day and to eat 10 transfats a day. Both, over years make sure you will reach God earlier than all of us.

Cigarettes by far. They WILL cause CAD and eating cheerios won't help you get rid of their effects. You can't take medications that counteract the damage the cigarette has on your cardiovascular system or your lungs. You can get throat, mouth, lung CA with cigarettes, or you can get COPD, CHF, CAD.....the list goes on and on. Both are bad for you, but the cigarettes are much worse.

You got some varying answers, but transfat is reconfigure molecular shape of the oils and fats form that are more chemically stable, but that mean's it's harder to digest and break down. Fryer oil that is old and gone through cycles of heating and reheating - tend to have a lot more transfat in it. Partitially hyrogrenated is what makes vegetable fats texture more like butter or lard - i.e. become more like saturated fat - and yes both are really bad for you too in comparision to unsaturated fats some in canola or olive oil.

For me, smoking or eating in moderation is best. But if You would really make me choose on the lesser evil, I would choose eating than the smoking.

Smoking has a lot of effect to all parts of the body systems. Trans fats, on the other hand, other than what good it dose, however it is still food and you can still get some of nutrient value from it.hehehehe and not to mention pleasure on the tastebuds...
