It actually loses its flavor. The longer you chew gum, the more the sugar and flavorings come out. That's why when you first put a piece in and start to chew, it will be juicy and the flavor will be strong. As you start to chew more, the flavors come out and you swallow them along with your saliva. In school we did an experiment on this. We weighed the gum before we chewed it, after chewing it for 5 minutes, and then after 10, and the weight kept decreasing, meaning the flavor and sugars were coming out.

It loses. The flavor particles in the gum dissolve in your mouth and they are gone. All that is left is a tasteless piece of rubber that is not much fun to chew.

the sugar and flavors leave the gum and are blended into your mouth. it's a little bit of both but more of the gum loosing it's flavor. i know this cause if you take gum from someone(girlfriend...) and she has been chewing it for a while... then it's really bland.

your mouth just gets used to it.. cuz one time this kid wanted to throw out his gum but i said no and i grabbed it and started chewing it and it tasted good but he thought it had no flavor left.. it might lose flavor within like the first 20 seconds but thats about it reeally..

Both, actually.
Most gum is flavored by a variety of additives that are washed away by saliva.
Of course, your smell and taste receptors also get "tired" after several minutes of continuous bombardment by the additives.
SO...the answer is yes.

Great question.... I think both.
-I did try an experiment like that i put the gum away in the fridge (i know it sounds disgusting) and i took it out a few hours later and it did have SOME of its good taste. Some was gone though, so I say 50/50.

The only way to find out for sure would be to ask to taste the gum of someone who has been chewing theirs for a while... And in order to verify your results, repeat this process with several different people chewing different types of gum.
I anxiously await your results. Please do report back!
