I have mild gastritis and recently it has been acting up. I take medicine on a daily basis but would like to improve my diet rather than continually taking medicine.

I have read that one cure for excess stomach acid is drinking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. However, on other websites I have read that vinegar is to be avoided (which seems to be common sense) because it is acidic.

Which is it? Is vinegar a cure or will it drill a hole in my stomach???

Organic unrefined apple cider vinegar such as (Bragg's) diluted with water is extremely beneficial to those with any gastrointestinal disorder which hampers their ability to make adequate hydrochloric acid for digestion. It is also good for heart burn and over acidity as it alkalizes Ur blood. When they mention vinegar they are talking about refined white vinegar used in processed food and yes you should avoid white vinegar and any other form of vinegar except for organic unrefined apple cider vinegar be sure its unfiltered.

ABsolutely!
Cider Vinegar is actually good for many things .. including Acid Reflux, heart burn and various other gastrointestinal problems. It is natural and less likely to cause other issues that some prescribed meds do. Vinegar will NOT drill a hole in your tummy! lol ..
I use vinegar on most of my greens, my fries(rarely have'em ) .. and if i feel a sign of heart burn .. i get a teaspoon in me right away .. btw .. vinegar is also helpful with some forms of arthritis.
If you aren't sure it will help .. all you need do is give it a try .. vinegar (cider esp.) .. won't hurt you. If you try it and it doesn't work .. no biggy .. but i bet you'll be glad you did!
Good Luck!
burp!

((btw .. i thought the same as you cuz i figured vinegar was acidy .. i was wrong!))

Ok.here are some tips from the chinese medicine: don´t let her drink milk it will cause even more slime she shouldn´t eat any cold stuff, nothing that is spicy ,no chocolate,no fruits ( yes,I know they have a lot of vitamins but in case of a caugh they cause even more caughing, specially oranges and lemons ) best thing to eat are soups, rice and noodles, she should also drink a lot of hot water. If she avoid all those food, caughing will be soothed soon.. ( I tried it a lot of times and it works,I also tried it the other way round and ate a piece of chocolate,I immidiately started caughing again ) To heal it faster you can make a curd compress. Warm a package of curd in a pot with hot water and put it onto her chest, wrap a towel around it and then a scarf, then she should rest for at least half an hour, you can do that twice a day then she should be fit again soon.. See you better,Poca..(-:

this is what i heard people use to believe there was too much acid in your stomach but now they believe there is not enough..think of it this way..if you can handle drinking it is the biggest problem..its hard to drink it in my opinion but it works quick on stomach problems or acid indigestion..try it a few times and see what happens if you'll even continue it..sorry to say i have also heard pills wont work not enough of the vinegar acid in them..it has to be vinegar or apple cider vinegar..try it than worry whats next..i also heard chewing gum helps since it causes more saliva in turn more acid to aid digestion

I think it depends on the cause of your stomach problems. If you are not making enough acid, then the vinegar should help. Or you can get some digestive enzymes that contain betaine hydrochloride powder.

On the other hand, if you have like acid reflux disease, avoiding vinegar would probably be the best.

Some people find relief by mixing one tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar in a glass of pure water, and drinking it with your meals. Do not consume any other beverage with your meals.

I've had friends try the vinegar for gastritis and they say it works faster than the medications do. I would give it a shot and see how it works for you.
