Hello. I have a 1998 Hyundai Tiburon FX that has an automatic, it has started slipping from 3 into 4 and sometimes will not back up. So I was wondering if anyone had this trouble with such a car and if so, how did you fix it? Like replacing the pulse generator or the control module? Thanks for your time....

How is the transmission fluid? How red/ brown, burnt smelling is it?
I would, if it were mine, remove the transmission pan and look to see how much metal/ clutch material is gathered aound the magnet in the pan. Change the fluid and see how it did. depending on the miles add some transmission conditioner to it.
It my experience that trannys when they wear out slip in the 2-3, or 3-4 before anything else, and then loose reverse. I may be wrong here, but your transmission is a Mitsubishi trans. I am not a fan of their reliability Their engines are good, as well as their electronics.
Good luck with it.

Sorry to tell you this, but more then likely you need to replace your transmission. I've seen this in my car and my friends car this year and we were not happy, I owned a Maxima he had a CL2.2. This will cost you at least $2200 up to $2700 for a full transmission rebuild. I'd be surprised if that wasn't the problem, but considering the age of the car and your description that is most likely the problem.
