Enlightenment is always spiritual. It can be gained traveling the spiritual path. In the house of God there is no discrimination. Any human being... where ever one may be... whatever be the conditions... can gain enlightenment if one truly desires and goes after it. Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed all desired enlightenment in their lifetime, achieved it and became man gods.

Enlightenment is the stage in the life of a soul when the dross within completely eradicated... it regains its original pristine form. And what is more powerful than a purified soul... the God Almighty himself! Enlightenment can be achieved by one in 1.1 million manifestations... a cosmic travel of 12.1 million earthly years.

This long span of time given by God for gaining enlightenment speaks for itself. In a 12.1 million years span... what value of one life of 70 to 80 years! Yet, gaining enlightenment is the ultimate goal of every life form. Enlightenment can only be gained as a human being... never directly from heaven or hell.

Traveling the path of absolute truthfulness, practicing absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years, performing karma the Nishakama karma way... one finally gains control over the five senses and the mind. Following the path of Neti (not this, not this) as advocated by Maharishi Ramana... one finally reaches God.

In Hinduism, Bhagavad Gita is one document that explains in detail all that is required to gain enlightenment within our lifetime. To be able to decipher the inner meaning of the 700 shlokas (versus) is the crux of life. The doctrine of Bhagavad Gita was given to the mankind by Lord Krishna, an Avatar (God manifest in human form). The knower of Bhagavad Gita becomes the knower of all... a kaivalya Jnani! Thereafter it is a direct route to salvation (moksha). More on Enlightenment - http://www.godrealized.com/enlightenment.html

Go into nature, forget everything you believe or have been taught. Observe the world with out making judgments or relating what you are seeing with beliefs of what they are and do not put labels on them, for instance; when you see a tree or a lake or a mountain do not think of them like this, just observe them for what they are. Stay there for as long as it takes for you to transcend all of your subjectivity.
Once you are in this state start to contemplate about things like God, the meaning of life, spirituality. If you are near a mountain go to the top. Sit and relax, do not keep track of time or check your cell phone for messages, breath deep breaths. Observe the vastness of the horizon. Watch the sun and the sky. If you can see rivers or streams observe how they flow. Take in all of the beauty around you. Feel the vastness of life.
This is the most important part. Have absolute faith, no doubts what so ever that you will receive enlightenment. Now simply sit on top the mountain or next to a stream, your mind should be quite, and wait for it.
You will recognize it when everything looks more beautiful, and you can feel the flow of life going through you, this is followed by a state of bliss.
It has worked for me, have faith that it will work for you.
