When you are in part time 4WD the front and rear axles are mechanically locked together with no wheel slip. So if operated on dry pavement especially during cornering the vehicle is going to buck, and the front end will want to bounce around due to the lack of slippage for the front and rear wheels to spin at different speed to take that corner. This leads to tire wear, and will eventually destroy the 4WD system components.
