I get a very loud deafening pounding in my left ear when I am in minor pain. I have had it happen before and I assumed everyone had this. I scratched my eye recently and everytime it started stinging when I blinked I would get that same odd pounding noise in my left ear. It's like someone is thumping my ear drum. I told my husband and he just looked at me flabbergasted. Maybe someone knows.

I think the last post have been not very helpful to you. I have ear conditions myself so I think I can help you.
The answer is acutally within the ear. Something is enlarged in the ear or has been become sensitive so that when your heart is beating strongly (like when your body registers pain) a blood vessel is actually contacting some mechanism in the ear.
The possible reasons for this are high blood pressure or alternatively, some inflamed membrane in the ear. Another cause might be wax build-up which could transmit the blood vessels pulse through to the sensitive parts of the middle and inner ear.
A GP could check your blood pressure and refer you to an ear specialist if neccesary. It usually just is wax buildup.

Blood vessels in the brain get smaller when you are experiencing pain . When that happens, the amount of blood and oxygen heading to the brain drops. So the brain sends a message (“Hey guys, we need some more blood and oxygen!”) that causes other blood vessels to expand. When those blood vessels expand, they become irritated, throb, and cause a pounding pain. Because it affects the brain and blood vessels,it's a vascular problem . Some scientists think that people who get these symptoms have inherited a more sensitive nervous system that reacts to sudden changes in either the body or the environment. The nervous system reacts when something activates it.

The only thing I can think of is throbbing...Which is usually your own heartbeat that you are hearing...When we have pain we get an increased heart rate and experience a throbbing sensation...but it is usually in the area of the pain....but perhaps everyone is different....Good luck...Hope it goes away...!
