Well, Im a chick, but i have an idea why. I think guys says that to each other cuz theyre guys, and that's just how they are. When they say to the girl that ur cute cuz they dont wanna sound like a total jerk or something like that.

Cause chicks seem to think the term 'hot' is not endearing, and the term 'cute' is more affectionate than sexual and portrays an emotional relationship.

Because girls tend to feel objectified when called "hot" and most guys have enough sense of self-preservation to know not to do that.
Plus, it's more innocent/romantic/sweet/whatever to be called cute.

good question maybe there are shy to say it to your face but like the others said, most girls dont like to be called hot. they like a more romantic thing like beautiful or pretty. not hot. ya now what i mean?

They say it because they are not very confident with themselves and feel that girls will judge them, which in most cases they do if they tell the "wrong answer." Think about it.
