I heard that there are petstores in which you can borrow a dog for a week, or so.
Where can I find one? I live in Toronto but I want to check up on it via the internet.
Thanks!

Why in the world would someone need to borrow a dog? Are you planning on making some "movies"?

Are you talking about "borrowing" to see how it would fit into your family or lifestyle?? If this is the case, contact a local rescue or humane society and see what their policies are...most will "foster" to adopt or offer trial run agreements..all reputable rescues should be willing to take the dog back if the adoption doesn't work out with no time limit attached....they don't want the pet they have spent time and love on ending back up on the streets or in kill shelters...

However, if you are talking about a "rent a dog" type program, I personally find that idea reprehensible and do not know of any nor would I recommend or endorse them in any manner.

I am not sure what you want to "borrow" a dog for, but don't go to a pet store to do ANYTHING. Most of the puppies are from puppy mills and themselves and their parents are usually kept in cruel conditions. I will assume you want it for breeding, which is also bad because many pet shop puppies have physical issues that you can't see and will only continue to breed these bad traits into a new generation of dogs. Speak to a reputable breeder that will let you see where the puppies AND the parents are kept. If they are at all hesitent, find someone else. That probly means they have a stash of puppies and neglected parents somewhere on their property.

I'm curious about this, too. Why do you want to borrow a dog?
Are you considering getting one as a pet and want to try it out first? Maybe you could "dog-sit" for a friend who is going on vacation. Maybe you could start a dog-walking service. As far as borrowing a dog, I've no idea where you could do that. Maybe you can look under "Rent-A-Pet" in the yellow pages.

Not sure it's possible. Unless you had a friend with a dog that would trust you with it for a week..

I saw a movie once where they rented a dog for a while.. Rent a Kid or something like that.. But I don't think you can actually do it.. I wouldn't loan a dog to a stranger for a week..

Why would you want to borrow a dog?

I never heard of such things.

There are situations when people foster dogs, having custody of them for a short while until they are ready for permanent homes, but to borrow? strange

I always thought it would be a good business : Rent-A-Pooch
Good if you are single, to go to the park and initiate conversations. Great idea!!
Actually- you can be a foster owner for rescue dogs if you don't want a life commitment. Seriously, that would be a very good deed.

Ya, I got to ask too...why in the blazes do you want to "rent" a dog...?
For crikey sake..they are not cars or tv sets..they are living breathing animals....sheesh. I know you can rent a horse and ride it for an hour..but a dog...
You really got to let us know your reason... we are waiting on the edge of our seats for this one.
