You most certainly can be gay and a Christian. Many Christians are. You just can't be a smart Christian and use that tired old "hate the sin, love the sinner" line to apply to gays. That's always a sign of a Christian lacking in insight and sympathetic imagination. But then, most people are lacking in those things.

LOL How do you explain the large number of scientists that are devout Christians? And I know some very intelligent Christians. as I know some very intelligent non-Christians too.
By the way, do you find your definition of Christian from "Yahoo Answers?" Not sufficient. I wouldn't pick up my science from here either. This page is great fun, and sometimes provides answers to specific questions, but does not provide exactly a thorough picture of different debating sides. It's not the purpose.
There are certain behaviours that are not "Christian" behaviours. That doesn't mean you can't be a Christian and have those behaviours, sadly.
One might say: "You can't be a Christian and be rude, because being rude is being unloving". I'm afraid that we would have to eliminate a large number of Christian voices on YA! (I'm not saying "most", just "a lot").
Now I can't set myself up as an example of a scientist who is a Christian. I was too afraid of numbers to take advanced science courses!
Am I intelligent and a Christian? Hmmmm some people think I am, and others think I'm not all that intelligent. (Especially if they don't share all my views, how can I be intelligent?)
So I guess I'll pass on putting out a verdict. I'll let others judge: they will be less biased than me on that one!
Note: I must have a little bit of intelligence - I just did a spell check, and the only words highlighted were LOL and hmmmmm. Yeah!!!!
EDIT:
I doubt that Justifies meant to include "scientist" in the list that made a person an insincere Christian! At least I hope it was just a mistake!
EDIT:
It's interesting that the Bible doesn't say Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of the homosexuality in those cities. They were destroyed because they were cruel to strangers (foreigners). That should speak to us today!!!!
Homosexuality is mentioned in Romans 1 a result of God's judgement, not a cause of it, interestingly enough.

Regrettably, intelligence has little or nothing to do with having common sense, good sense, decency, or civilization.
Yes, you can be intelligent and Christian. I can think of several stellar examples of intelligent, thoughtful Christians with common sense, good sense, decency, and civilization such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori of the United States, the last five Archbishops of Canterbury, Dom Gregory Dix, Joan Chittester, and Esther de Waal—those are just the examples I am most familiar with. Likewise, there are such Christians who are not in the public eye but nevertheless go deeply and peaceably about their blessèd daily lives living in the presence of their god.
Most regrettably, it is these Christians' polar opposites who are most seen and heard. Note well these others seem to enjoy both monetary and political gain: Ian Paisley, Sr. & Jr.; Bob Jones, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Archbishop Peter Akinola of Nigeria, and Fr. Charles Coughlin anyone?

This is the land of the free. You don't have to succomb to anyone's point of view. Especially the ones who demand to be believed. I have never read that one cannot be gay, murderer, mean, happy, elated or whatever and a christian. The beliefs of church are antiquated and that's why these beliefs are being questioned and faught until reform is achieved. One for instance: the priests want to marry, but the church wants everything to stay the same familiar way. It's backward thinking. The church needs to join new thinkers in the new century.

It is my opinion that one can be a sodomite, a murderer, or a scientist and still be a self-professed Christian. However, I would also say that a person who is any one of these (and many other abominations) and still calls themself a Christian is one of two things:
1) Severely, severely, backslidden.
2) Only a Christian in word, but not in deed. Meaning, I would have to question the sincerity of their salvation. Matthew 7:22-23
Intelligence has nothing to do with this question.
Sorry, I should have said "evolutionary" scientist.

that's an excellent ruling. the scholar team needed sturdy acceptance from the college (and the funds that pass alongside with that acceptance), yet refused to connect as much as the college's non-discrimination coverage, which all scholar communities might desire to realize this as to realize sturdy acceptance. whilst the college suggested, "sorry, yet no contract, no acceptance, elementary as that", the scholar regulation team sued for non secular discrimination. The court have been given it surely perfect; you are able to no longer have it the two methods and get a definite exemption. I basically wish this wasn't yet yet another 5-4 decision; which skill the problem is going to return up back, whilst somebody thinks the composition of the court is extra "favorable" to their argument. @MM: honest adequate factor approximately federal funds, yet many of the earnings question right here got here from a pool that fluctuate into funded by skill of "scholar interest costs" that everybody on the school pays into as part of the traditional training price. The college has the non-discrimination coverage in place precisely so a discriminatory team does not be funded by skill of the very pupils who it excludes, which may be rather perverse, yeah?

You can be gay, and be a murderer, and be a scientist or whatever… You can be anything in ones life and its what’s in your heart that defines your belief system. You have no restrictions… the only request and requirement is, that you follow Gods Laws. In Love of neighbor… you love the Father. Very Simple

I wish you could meet a friend of mine, Father D. He is a brilliant Jesuit mathematician and one of the most literate, thoroughly educated people you are ever apt to encounter. I don't think I've ever seen anyone bring up a subject that he can't discuss and hasn't studied.
And here in this forum, we have people like Father K, who is also very intelligent and extremely well educated. He's well-versed in many subjects and can hold his own nicely in any debate. He is by no means the only Christian here who meets those criteria.
There are also many scientists who are/were Christians, by the way. Check out this book for more information:
Scientists of Faith by Dan Graves. (Kregel Resources: Grand Rapids, MI; 1996).
The book is subtitled: Forty-Eight Biographies of Historic Scientists and Their Christian Faith.

You are correct in that those whose minds follow a more scientific path are less likely than others to be religious, Christian or otherwise.
Those of us with scientific minds use logic and evidence to make our life decisions. Religion, unfortunately, has little logic, and even less evidence to support it.
It makes for interesting reading sometimes though. Fanatics are amusing to observe.

Can be. Much to your surprise, I'm sure, even the Catholic Church teaches to love everyone as Jesus loved everyone, regardless of who they are. We are to love the sinner but cannot confirm them in their sin. Regardless of what that sin might be...not just exclusively homosexuality. All Sin.
The Church also teaches....while not confirming a person in their sin.....not telling them, "Oh, its OK anyway..go ahead." that person is not to be put down and belittled but should be shown the respect and dignity that is due to the human person.
What was that you were saying about being a Christian and intelligent at the same time?
