What do you think are the consequences of missing a military movement?

Article 87 sums up what missing a movement is, in your opinion, what are the consequences of this action? To your troops and to the military as a whole?

I understand what the court or legal consequences are, I was thinking more along the lines of personal consequences; how it affects the troops, the soldiers personally more or less.

Missing movement.. desertion. Same thing. The result will be a court martial, and more than likely some brig time and discharge.

Here are the consequences according to the Uniform Code of Military Justice:

(2) Neglect. Article 86—absence without authority

Maximum punishment.

(1) Design. Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for 2 years.

(2) Neglect. Bad-conduct discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for 1 year.

As a whole it is a morale detractor.

I'd think twice about doing something that will haunt you the rest of your life.

Depending on circumstances, an all=expese paid vacation at the US Army disciplinary barracks at Ft Leavenworth, Kansas, dishonorable discharge, being an embarrasment to your friends and familty, never being able to get a good job, loss of govt and VA benefits, and here are probably a few morethings that could happen.

One of my shipmates missed ship's movement by minutes. He got busted from E-5 to E-4, 45 days restriction, 45 days extra duty, and a $200 fine for 2 months (in 1980). They flew him from Norfolk to Spain to meet the ship. And, no, he was NOT court martialed. He could have asked for one, but he received non-judicial punishment from our C.O.
As far as the rest of the crew was concerned. We thought he was a moron. He lived 2 miles from the ship and couldn't make it on time. One out of 1,411 sailors. We moved on with our daily lives. He wasn't even a topic of conversation our first day at sea.
