It seems that sometimes when Christians are asked, why they believe in God, or why they don't believe in evolution, the answer is because the Bible says such and such. That doesn't seem like a very good answer to me. 2000 years from now, are people gonna think we can fly on brooms because it says so in Harry Potter?

heh....science said the world was flat.....not the apostles who wrote the gospels. Science says we now come from monkeys. Our descendants will look back and laugh.

'The bible says so' is only a good answer if both people in the discussion believe the validity of the bible. I do but you may not, so I would either have to prove the validity of the bible or use an argument that did not come from the bible.

People have such a hard time believing the bible only because if it were to be true they would need to change their lives. People have no problem believing Caesar once existed but there is more proof that Jesus walked the Earth than Caesar. You can't just pick and choose what the truth is. Be consistent. If you don't believe bible, why believe there was an ancient world? Why trust the history books?

1 - Interesting question! To those who believe that God created all things and that Jesus Christ is The Savior of human-kind, then yes!

2 - Being a Christian does not mean that one does not believe in evolution. Personally, I think that our modern day Bible has been changed to suit the churches goal. Evolution could be a true answer to where we came from without changing what the Bible offers. Thus, IMHO, the Bible is incomplete but nonetheless, true! After all, it was written by man! And man is far from perfect!

3 - One cannot compare Mister Harry Potter to The Bible. Try as you may, there is a BIG difference!

4 - I have been here for over 700 years (long before Mister Harry) and you (Sir or Madam) are speaking nonsense!

Hope this helps!

God Bless!

LOL. pretty sure Harry Potter will not be around that long. "Because the bible says so' is sufficient proof for those who accept the Bible as the word of God I answer that way if I am speaking to people who respect the Bible as such. For those who do not, such an answer would be meaningless.

The Bible is something both sacred and historically correct. Harry Potter is fictional. Evolution has yet to be a proven fact (where is the "missing link" ) and how many types of animals, both reptillian and mammal that are extinct and not evolved into something else only related to(all the different types of monkeys are there) Maybe you should read the Bible and with an open mind and a prayer or two to help understand it . Where do you think your soul will be 2000 yrs from now ? You do have a soul ya know, whether you believe it or not

Thats goofy.
How do you really expect some to answer the question: "Why do you believe in God"?
Its something we have to express from the heart and put into words, and thats very difficult to do when you are talking about the love between a son and a Father (no gender intended). So people will tell you things about their love, as in understanding and believing the Word of God.
If you want someone to describe to you the love in their heart, and do it perfectly, then I submit to you that you aren't being reasonable or fair to people.
As far as evolution goes, the Bible states the earth is eons and eons old, that in fact there was an entire earth age before this one, so there is no controversy between the Bible and Science. I can tell you that
in 2000 years, if we are still in this flesh,
the Bible will be here, but who knows about Harry potter on video? Hey, maybe......

I'm a little confused at what your question really is.But maybe this will help you. I am a Christian not because the Bible tells me to be.I am because God lives in me.He helps me through every hour of everyday. When someone answers you because the Bible says so.If they are a true Christian, yes it is enough. The Bible is our guide ,the word of God, his laws.We strive to follow his laws, but no one I mean no one is perfect. Not even a Christian. We are by God, Just forgiven. To really answer your question you could begin by reading the Bible. It won't bite you or make you a Christian. But maybe just maybe you'll hear Gods voice and understand .2000 years from now? The bible will still be. Harry Potter? I'm not too sure of LOL

Let me see here," just because",is not an answer to anything. The Bible was written so we could live our lives the way our lives were ment to be, by the LORDS way . The BIBLE also tells about the perils in life for even the closest to GOD, what I'm trying to tell you is that , you sound like you have never read the Bible and if this is so, read it now so you won't ask these kind of questions, for there is ONLY one GOD, regardless of what science would tell you ! If you don't learn of the living god now, you may not get the chance before it's to late. Believe it or Not ! Just a friend.................

I wonder when people are going to stop worshipping books, and just stand in awe of nature, the true word of god. Anyway, obviously 'because the bible says so' is evidence that people cannot think for themselves. And is therefore a mute argument. I can only hope Harry Potter offers better advice for future generations!

No. Not everyone does that. There are a handful that do. There is one person in particular on this forum who answers everyquestion as such. I thought they were like 12 or something because their answers were so lame I figured it had to be a kid just spouting off random **** they heard from their parents. Well their not. I was like wow.
