I have a '06 Grand cherokee and am getting a "Service 4 WD" message displayed. What needs to be done for this service? Is it something that I can do, or does it have to be done by the dealer (require special equipment/tools)? Thanks

I'm guessing since your jeep is so new and you stated there's not a lever or buttons, that you have the newest version of Quadra-Drive which is just that, its full time 4WD, no neutral or low range position. This is actually a pretty descent system as most of the time the vehicle will drive and handle as a 2WD vehicle, but as soon as the rear wheels spin the torque sensing system will transfer power to the front wheels. Remember though, 4WD will help you get moving in snow/ice, but it will not help you stop.

I believe there is a Service Bulletin that addresses this problem. It involves reprogramming the FCM (forward control module) with a flash update. If your Jeep is still under warranty, there is no charge for this service. Call your dealer for an appointment. Hope this helps!

An 06 and already needs the 4WD system serviced? Sounds odd to me unless the vehicle has been abused, or wrecked, it shouldn't be having that sort of problem, so contact your dealer and have it fixed.

i have a 1994 Grand cherokee limited and i get the same exact message on mine. it has been doing it for over 2yrs now and it still runs great. i think it is a chip or a filter. Personally i wouldn't worry about it to much. if it is still under warranty have it fixed and tell me what they did so i can fix mine.

AN 06 IT IS Probly still under warranty and i wouldn't want to jeopardize that. so i would say take to a dealership if you dom't know how to fix it. plus you will probly have to reset the trouble code. if it is an automatic its usualy just a filter (the one in trans pan).but a simple call to your dealer n you will know
