The only place to buy a purebred dog is from a very reputable breeder. That means they only have a few dogs, one or two breeds, the place is clean, they show you where the puppies were born, where they play, show the parents. They should know everything about the breed, the parents without looking up records. The puppy should come with a written 1 year guarantee including hip and eye tests, shots. deworming. Most important they must agree to replace cost or replace puppy if it should develop a non congenital disease or condition. This should also guarantee that the puppy has been very well socialized with other dogs and kids and if the puppy becomes aggressive in 6 months, they should replace it unless the buyer has been cruel or aggressive to the puppy. You can find a good breeder by going online to look at your desired breed and then look for a breeder near you. Check them out, ask for references. DO NOT BUY FROM local pet stores. That is where puppies that large breeders can't sell end up for a huge price and no guarantee. Many Animal Rescue Leagues often rescue puppies and pregnant dogs. The cost is minimal and there are some cute puppies available

Your local animal shelter. The animals there are always looking for a good home. They deserve a second chance in life. Most dogs and cats there were given up or got lost from there preivous owners and are now waiting for someone like you to come along and give them the home they have always wanted. There are some great dogs there. I adopted 2 dogs from a shelter in my life and they have been nothing but great dogs. So that's where i would start looking. Hope you find yourself a great dog.

u probably wont get a pure bread dog from a shelter and thats not a big deal
mixed dogs-mutts- are the sweetest and have the best personality

plus, you know that you will have made a differnce in that particular dogs life

Please try your local shelters or Humane Society, there are so many deserving dogs that need good homes. Many animals have to be euthanized because they are unwanted. We adopted a little Pomeranian from the Humane Society, and she lived for 13 years. She was the best, sweetest little dog in the world. Be a hero, go to the shelters and save a life! =)

I would look in the local newspaper for a private sale. You could go to a pet store but they usually over charge. Be sure to ask if the dogs have papers, shots and what not, if these things are important to you :)

Try to find a great breeder. One that not many know about because they usually have shyer pets. They like the open and arent too needy. Reasonably prices, too. I got mine right in my state. Look around in the newspaper or on Google. Good luck!
