Squats is the best all around exercise for boxing. It strengthens your legs and your hips, from which the power of your punches comes. It also develops your rib cage and builds up your lungs for stamina. Tyson was an advocate of squats and he really loaded up the bar while training. As you would've seen, the power of his punches seem to come all the way from his powerful legs and feet. Military presses and bench presses are good for the upper body, but should be performed with higher reps and moderate weight.

There are generally two types of weightlifting workouts. High weight, and low repititions will build muscle mass (bigger muscles). Lower weight and higher reps, will give definition, and stamina. As a boxer, you will want some mass. When you get to the size you want, switch to the lower weight and higher rep, to maintain. Cardiovascular workouts will give good stamina results, as well. Weightlifting in boxing is extreamly bad, it tightens the muscles that allow for punches to be thrown making it require more energy and slower punches(Shane Mosley lifted at 154 to put on "armor", and it slowed him down terribly(i.e. Mosley vs Forrest) The exercises that should be done are swimming, running, push ups, and other muscle using exercises that don't truly tighten the throwing muscles
