I just wrote on mine with a permanent marker "please take" with a smiley face, it was gone when I got home, I even filled the can with garbage first!

We had this problem. Our neighborhood finally rented a dumpster and we got rid of it that way. You could try to put a sign on it when it's empty indicating that the can is trash.

In the past I've taped a note to the receptacle telling the trash-man that it was garbage and asking him to please take it away. Seems silly, but it works!

Ha ha ha! The things in life we ponder! LOL Yes, throw it into a larger can or break up the old one and stuff the pieces into the new one.
