I'm on a diet and eat 4-6 servings of fruit, wheat toast, fresh squeezed orange juice and lots and lots of water. So I don't eat a whole lot of calories.

If you are cutting calories also that should be plenty.

If you eat 500 less calories a day then you actually need, then you will lose about 1-2 pounds a week. Exercise also revs up your metabolism, and afterwards will also burn more calories just sitting around than if you hadn't exercised. I guess it just depends on what you're trying to obtain. Go to www.mypyramid.gov, and you can create an account and enter all the foods you eat and physical activity you do and it will show you your energy balance (how much calories you need vs how much you intake). It's kind of tedious to do it all the time, but if you keep track of what you do/eat for a week, you get an idea of what your lifestyle is like and then you don't have to do it any more.

...and so you are losing muscle and water weight NOT FAT!!!!
plus - nobody counts calories - you have to count TIME.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

If you are trying to lose weight you should be eating more proteins from lean meats and fish. Also work some veggies into your diet. Many fruits have lots of sugar. I hope you are also taking a mutivitamin and a calcium supplement if you are not drinking any milk or having any dairy products. Portion control is important, but starving yourself is not the way to do it.

If that is all you are eating then you will lose weight, but don't look at what the machine tells you as accurate. Those machines are programmed with certain people in mind. The majority of people who use those machines do not fit their profile. They could be extremely high for you or on the low end.
I am concerned that if that's all you are eating, then you are not getting all of the essential nutrients. Are you consuming protein, low-fat dairy, and vegetables? What about your fats? Your body does need fat in order for it to thrive. Please tell me that that is not all you are eating. By only eating fruit and toast, you are not getting the essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals in your diet.
