Being European, I have been told by my Catholic parents, that alcohol is not to be served at my son's first communion lunch/dinner in May. I have googled communion etiquette, but have not found any particular "guide lines". Anyone?

Serve whatever you think is appropriate. If you wish to serve wine to the adults then do so. I grew up in a family that had liberal views on alcohol and I remember from an early age being given a small amount of wine with important family gatherings.

Sure you can serve alcohol, just not to the kids!

I'm a Recovering Roman Catholic. Every communion I ever attended, & I've attended PLENTY, had wine & beer available to guests.

i am a catholic and alcohol is key to a communion party, its how they keep going until midnight. we live in the us, and the party was a dinner, so things may be different.

There damned well better be alcohol at my godson's first communion party next week!

It's up to you, you are the host. If you want to serve alchohol, go for it!

I have never heard that you couldn't. its a time of celebration, your child has taken a very big step into full communion with god. the only stipulation would be any holy day or friday...hope that helps. you can also check the catechism.

You certainly can serve it at the lunch. However, I wouldn't if your parents are going to be there, since they have already said they wouldn't like it.

You can serve it to the adults if you want to.
