So, I'm on a diet that requires me to eat oatmeal EVERY MORNING but I absolutely HATE oatmeal. Every since I was a kid, couldn't stand it. So is there an alternative for oatmeal that works just like it? With the same sugar and carbs? Or it can even be less that what oatmeal has, just something different. OR...I wonder is it possible to make the oatmeal then BAKE it so it will be like a granola bar? And if i did bake it would it cook all the way through? I hate oat meal! Please help! 1 last question, could cream of wheat do the trick? Thanks a lot!

Is it the texture you don't like or the taste? I have a granola bar recipe but it contains dried fruit and honey, both of which would count as a sugar. I also have a recipe in a new book I bought called The Cure by Timothy Brantley. It is a breakfast made out of nuts.

Brantley'ola Sprouted Nut Cereal

1/2 cup sunflower seeds, soaked for 2hrs or more
2 cups almonds, soaked overnight
3 cups pecans, soaked overnight
2 cups walnuts, soaked overnight
1 tblsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
pinch of sea salt to taste

Lightly grind up ingredients in food processor in advance. In the morning, drain water from the nuts and the rest of the ingredients. Refridgerate immediately after the first serving. This will last 2 or more days. Pour nut milk over the above ingredients. Add agave syrup to taste and add a few of your favourite fruits.

I haven't been able to try this yet because my husband is severly allergic to peanuts and nuts of all kinds. In case this doesn't appeal to you, Here is the granola bar recipe as well.

Quaker Oats does make an oatmeal bar so that you can just eat that bar and get the equivalency of cooked oatmeal, just look in the cereal section of your favorite grocery store. Cream of wheat would probably work ,if in fact you wanted a hot breakfast all the time.

I hate oatmeal too...yyyyuuuuckk!! Cream of Wheat is pretty much the same as oatmeal, just tastier! I was at the store the other day and there was this stuff called Coco Wheats. It is like chocolate oatmeal, but it tastes a whole lot better than oatmeal!

Cream of Wheat or Grits are close but will not have the same benefits as oatmeal. Try adding fruits or flavorings you like. Oatmeal really is the best.

Depends on why they put you on oatmeal. Whoever put you on the diet is the best authority. So ask them about the following.

If it's for weight loss then ask about Kashi GoLean cereal, which is whole grains that aren't sticky and slushy like oatmeal, and has tons of good proteins and fiber.

If it's for cholesterol lowering then ask about Cheerios, the only other cereal shown to have cholesterol lowering properties in clinical studies.

If it's for diabetes, then you might be stuck with oatmeal, because you need the fiber and the cholesterol lowering both, *without* the sugar you'd find in Kashi.

I hate oatmeal, too - AND - I hate diets!!! Eat wheatena or any other hot cereal. I think the diet just means you to have a filling breakfast so that you won't be starving by lunch & really pig out. Cut your portions and increase your exercise & you will lose weight without too much trouble.

You can make your own granola by baking the oatmeal with honey and dried fruit like raisins or apricots and sliced almonds. Or buy high fiber flakes and add fruit.

I'm with you, I hate oatmeal too. I discovered grits. If you don't put too much butter on them, they're healthy. I like the individual serving packets of them from Quaker.
