Travolta and Cruise are old hat by now. Tom Cruise was FIRED, so I think his "power" is waning. What I'm worried about is the Scientology cult itself. THAT has much more power than it deserves, power over it's members and power in the form of a fierce legal team and dozens of innocent looking front groups that have a hidden agenda to recruit for the cult.

The odd thing is that all the famous followers of this organization start to look sort of the same--square faces etc. Maybe it's the programming that does it.
Scientology as we all know isn't a religion, it's a big business. It's nothing new, it was already up and running back in the 70's. The only reason it survived its founder is that the structure was in place to keep leaching money from the brainwashed followers. Ever notice how they never show any interest in the poor, it's always the rich they go after?
The followers may be sincere but they are sincerely hoodwinked. It doesn't say much for their intelligence if they can be drawn into such an unfounded system and swallow it as real. But you know the old saying, "A fool and his money are soon parted." I guess when you make millions per picture money sort of loses its value so you don't realise that someone is lining his pockets from yours. Or maybe they're so desperate for yet more applause and approval that they don't care what they have to do to get it. It used to be Christian Science was what all the "stars" were into, now it's Scientology. Both systems deny the reality of physical illness.
As to how much power they have in Hollywood, only as much as they're given. Personally I gave up watching any of their films long ago. If more people stayed away and didn't buy their product, maybe someone else would take their place on the ladder.

I don't have an opinion about scientologists. Describing them as weirdos is just making a judgement. I don't care what power they have in Hollywood - that's not real life. I don't understand why you would be offended by their beliefs -You don't have to believe them too! People being ofended by what other people think is what causes us so many problems. And who knows whether aliens are coming to take us over - its as possible as all the other scenarios.

Aside from Pulp Fiction, neither have ever made a good movie. Tom Cruise and John Travolta aren't really relevant.

Those are your 'powerhouses'?
Reminder: they are aging out of prominence. Cruise was fired. He's thought of as a nutcase. Both are rumored to be gay, which they have run from. Scientology is prominent in Hollywood, but has it hurt the quality of the movies? More likely cocaine is more harmful to movie quality than Scientology.

While recently watching a documentary on one of the engineers in the US missle program during WWII, they mentioned that he was part of a Satanic cult. Then they said that L Ron Hubbard acted as this mans scribe during rituals attempting to summon demons to have sex with them. This is immediatley prior to founding Scientology. Kinda makes you wonder where he gets his ideas from...

When does a religious Sect stop being a Sect and become the Accepted Norm? They are all insane. And surely Jesus said "You have no power over ME except that which is given to you from above" Jesus to Pontius Pilot.

I honestly do not know much about Scientology, but if it makes you act like Tom Cruise, I don't want to have anything to do with it!

Disagree...no such thing as a religious or spiritual sect having "power" of any kind, in Hollywood. They would like to think so, though.
