why couldn't it say "slavery is horrific, it disgusts god"
the bible spent countless space declaring simple things like working on the sabbath as punishable by death, but at the same time speaks of slavery of everyone in the world (exept jews, go figure) as an uninterested bystander.

and why not say "women are to have the same opportunities where they are fit to fulfill just as men"
all the way up until these last 40 years it was understood that the bible wanted women to be submissive in society, and yet we have cultural/religious amnesia about the whole ordeal women have suffered.

why couldn't the bible spent two freaking sentences setting these things more clear for mankind, instead of justifiying them in a roundabout way?

Because it was written by Bronze Age nomadic desert dwellers?

By people who wouldn't think twice about toasting their sons on an altar if they thought it would please the sky god?

By barbarians whose ideals are rejected by all of modern civilization, yet empty headed fools sit in rapt attention on Sunday to hear what kernels of wisdom the raping pillagers have for the modern man?

You've already got an opinion on the subject, so I doubt this will change your mind, but up until Christianity women were basically property of their fathers first, and then their husbands. God wrote the book for the ages, not just ours, and any book written 2,000 years ago that said what you want it to say would not have meant anything.

The Bible says that wives are to be submissive to their husbands, not to men in general, and if you'll read the whole thing with an open mind you'll see why. By the way, submissive does not mean I'm the dictator and you're my door mat, it only means that there is one leader in the house. God's plan works if us flawed people would only follow it.

On a side note, most of my bosses have been women, and they've been better than the men (I am a man).

Do you have a credit card? A mortgage? A car note? If so, you are BY YOUR OWN CHOICE an indentured servant . That's the same as the slaves in the bible. The bible was written by God. God understands human nature (and when He wrote it, He already knew YOU) and that people until the end of time will be either placing others into slavery, or giving themselves over to it.

God spoke directly to Adam. Gave him the instructions. Put him in charge of his family. He's God - He can set it up however He wants to.

If you ever make your own planet, you can set it up how you want. Until then, to succeed, read the basic instructions before leaving earth.

Working off debt is a way of repayment. Slavery has rule to follow as well that man disregarded and mistreated others. Oppression of others is not acceptable to the Lord. Respect and decency and respect is deserved by all upright. respect authority and serve as unto the Lord is the way to earn favor and freedom. Man still twisted it to their own needs. God showed mercy to the Jews is Egypt and gave Martin Luther King a dream. I believe King saw what God wanted intended for him and and he did not fear death. God even says to not oppress the immigrants or foreigners. Man still does that with poverty wages for man,d own greed. The rules are there but man corrupts God's ways. I believe many women should be in charge of their home. Men have fallen short of God's intent in being leaders of their home. Women are to be re guarded as equals and joint counselors in the home as one flesh. Why is God always on trial for the mistakes of man and his wicked ways.

The bible was written mainly by sheep herders and fishermen and would-be philosophers, so that explains the great mystery. And the best parts were borrowed from other religions.

This is a good one… god creates Adam and gives him animals, “but Adam could not find a suitable helper”, so god creates for him a woman. Nice god I must say.

Sometimes you have to look at the PRINCIPLES of things rather than actual laws.

For example, you cannot pick up a Bible and find an exact scripture that says "You should not smoke" However, you can find a scripture that says: "Let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of [the] flesh." (2 Corinthians 7:1) ... This a principle, we should cleanse ourselves from anything that defiles our bodies. Smoking is very bad for your heath, which is why you should "cleanse yourself" from it. Again, it's the principle.

It would be nice if it were all THAT clear.

The thing is that everything is there... you just have to figure it out. You have to read and study and put everything together.

Why didn't George Orwell, Ray Radbury, etc... make things as easy as far as saying "As for the future, we're doomed because of cloning, control issues and the elimination of morals."

Vagueness is the spice of religion! If the Bible were crystal clear, what would provide intellectual fodder for you and me to ruminate on?

It is clear if you study it out, who was speaking to who and why, all of the details,a nd reading not just one scripture, but all of them to get it. God says to study His bible , not just to read it, and we are to pray, and then He gives us answers and new revealtion almost everytime we pick the Bible up. If God made is super easy, ppl would get bored with it and rarely read it. some of the things you state arent what was was said at all. God says we are all equal, men and women, but He does have roles for us each to fullfill in the family. The man is to be subject to God and treating His wife like God would treat her, and she is to be subject to God herself, and follow her husband, as long as he isnt going against what God says. BUt, we are to be equal, seeing each other as gifts from God. Mankind puts their touch on all of this, as usual, and messes it all up. Need to study scripture and pray and it gets very very clear. Being submissive is not at all what you think it is, you are hearing what man says in interpretation of it. Women have suffered a lot because of it, and so have men in a way. cuz, many do think they can beat a woman or yell a woman into submissision, but they miss where God tells them how to treat a woman, just run with the submissive part, without understanding it, and both men and woman are ruined with all this. God was never for slavery either, but it was happening, and he said there were just things that one couldnt do with a slave. Yet, if you read where God says all man are equal, and the other things, you would know He never wanted slavery. Just like divorce, He doesnt like that either, but He tells us things we can and cant do in divorce, cuz He knows we rebellious ppl do as we please, not as He says. Yes, there were rules about working on the sabbath, but they were temporary. God knew that ppl couldnt keep the law the right way, it was temporary and was eventually replaced with a new law, the new covenant. read up, its awesome.
PPL say there are contradictions in the Bible, No, there are just things they dont know yet, they get an idea and run with it, without full study on it and prayer. The Bible is like a huge giant glorious puzzle, jigsaw puzzle, fitting togher one little piece at a time, and eventually the full picture comes alive and you see HIs plan so fully. He wants us to study to KNOW. and casual looking at it wont cut it. If we dont get it, its cuz we are missing a piece still. and when that puzzle is done, guess waht, we get to begin a new one. The Bible is in layers, as the myseteries of the Bible are being revealed. and in these last days, so much is coming. Read up before Jesus comes, cuz then its too late. He is eager to forgive.
God is love..

Why can't school books just print all the answers? Duh!
Learn from it...look into your soul for the answers. They are there- it's just some people don't like the answers so they ignore them. The guide is the book/// but it can't make you listen- it's a book!
