Yes, I still "mind my manners'. I still say 'sir' and 'maam'. Open a door for the ladies (regardless of age) and help ladies remove their coat and still pull out a chair and help a date with their chair. Yes, I must admit, I am fifty yrs old. But, I've been known to "sweep a young lady off her feet" by simply treating her with respect and dignity...

I get really mean looks when I say 'mam' so I stopped saying it. a lot of women are offended by it nowadays. for the same reason I stopped opening doors. we live in an age where chivalry is rewarded with scorn and suspicion. as for sir, I use it every now and then, depending upon my impression of what kind of person they are. I'm not a fan of showing a great deal of respect to people that are mean, condescending, aggressive, or really loud. but for normal everyday people I'll use it off and on.

my main feeling though is that it's your HEART and your INTENTIONS that matter, not your superficial social niceities. i'd rather be a boor on the outside than have perfect manners that cover over inner jealousy, hatred, and meanness.

Use it every single day, it is common courtesy and is always said cheerfully or at the very least civilly. Being respectful and kind and courteous are always good rules to follow. Generates lots of future friends and makes for a better working and home environment.

I do if I do not know them. If they are much older than I, then I use Mr....... or Mrs...... This comes from working most of my adult life either in retail or the Police Dept. I still cant call my ex-high school teachers by their first name.

I do. I also love the southern way of kids calling adults Mr. and Miss. For example, Mr. Jim or Miss Samantha. Love it!
