Just go out and try things on your local waters! Start out with float, hook and a worm and see how you do.If it works out for you try some fake baits but use your money smart most companies are out to catch fishermen not for you to catch fish!
Go to your local bait shop and feel free to ask questions!I always enjoyed when someone came in and asked for information. Also you might even find a new fishing friend this way!

A question requiring a very in-depth answer. Look up some fishing web sites and join some message boards.........almost all of the people on a fishing message board or chat room will be glad to help you with any answers or advice. One particular board I like real well is Strike King Lure company........these guys are great.

uhhh if the water is cold slow down your retrive if the fish are active and atacking your lure then give them a moderate retrive with some jerking and stops
fish near logs stumps trees for bass in the grass is always good when the water is warm
try spinners with some trailers like a spinner worm or a jig with a small tube jus mix it up try something if it does not work that does not mean it wount it means that there not biteing on that on that day
keep it up and have fun

It's all about being in the "right place, right time, right bait." If you are fishing in a place where there is no fish, you will catch nothing. If you are fishing in a place where there are a lot of fish, most likely you will catch something as long as you are using the right bait.
