No man is allowed to beat a woman in general...ie a man walking on the street starts beating up a woman.
If you mean husband and wife...then husband may 'smack' his wife lightly to correct her in something. But that's the last resort...he must give warnings etc at first.
If he does beat her badly enough to give her bruises, bleed, break bones, then he will be punished by Allah in this world along with after world (hell). In this world, it could be anything, ie him losing his job or him staying unhappy...things of this sort.

In Islam we believe that the route to heaven is under the feet of our Mothers.
There is a whole chapter dedicated to Women and the treatment of them.
We should not harm anyone or anything, and if we do we will pay for it in the afterlife, if we have not been forgiven by the victim.
We must ask for forgiveness and if it is not given, then leave it up to God to judge between us, and he is never unjust.
If our wives are not happy they complain like any other women, and if it becomes unbearable we can divorce them the same as anyone else can.
The main reason we have less divorces in Islam, is that it is considered a great shame for a woman to lose her husband, and not many men will marry a divorced woman.

Nothing. It's a Muslim husband's prerogative to beat his wife for any reason, or for no reason at all. If the husband tires before he is satisfied, he may ask his brother to finish the job.

I believe they feel as if the woman is property of the man and that he can do as he chooses. That wouldn't fly with me, but I guess I am fortunate to live in a society that abuse is not accepted. I guess if you do not know different, you do not know how to fight it.
