A few things could've happened, and neither of them would be caused by eating bread. Either A: The piercer didn't do the piercing 100% sanitarily, or B: Your friend didn't keep the piercing clean by following their instructions. I suggest to contact the place she got it pierced. If it's happened to other people they've pierced, they'll know how to help her.

Vinegar. Tell her to take a couple of teaspoons a day. Once in the morning and again in the noon or before bedtime. Tell her to do this every day for 3 to 5 days. It should heal. It will burn like hell the first couple of days but after that pain goes away, she should be fine. This tip is FREE.
There is also nothing wrong with gargling with Hydro Peroxide, it is very safe.....just don't swallow it. Warning it does foam up in the mouth like alka selzer but it's soothing and will only target the infected area. Tell her to try this a couple of times a day as well.
In fact, it won't hurt to do both. Better to be safe than sorry. If none of this works, I'll be VERY SURPRISED. That would mean, it's an STD or something and NOT a simple infection.

She is probably not cleaning it properly and or the person who pierced it used dirty tools. It's going to hurt like crazy. When my tounge was pierced I used listerine like crazy and I never had any problems. Tell her to keep it clean! When she chews keep the food on the side of her mouth and make sure she cleans around the ring when she is done eating. I would rinse with listering every hour for the next couple of days and I would go to the doctor if it did not start getting better soon.
Here are some tips I found on a piercing site!
When the procedure is finished it is up to the individual to follow aftercare guidelines, which include:
Using ant microbial alcohol-free mouth rinses and sea salt rinses.
Not sharing plates, eating utensils, cup etc with other individuals.
Replacing your toothbrush and making sure to keep it extra clean during the healing time.
Keeping dirty fingers, pencils, sunglasses, and other foreign objects away from your mouth.
Avoid playing with the tongue ring, excessive talking and any oral contact.
Swelling should be minimal and there should be little or no bleeding. If you have excessive swelling or bleeding then you need to seek the advice and help of a professional and/or medical doctor.

I don't think bread had anything to do with it. She'll have to see a doctor, who most likely will prescribe Gentian violet. Was she on antibiotics recently? Because that can cause thrush/yeast infections in the mouth as well as other areas. New dental proceedures can also cause irritation and make it easy for yeast to grow...so I'm sure a new piercing could contribute too.

Hello, I'm on the second week and seeing definite improvement on my yeast infection symptoms:
https://bitly.im/aMEtD
Note that: If the yeast infection doesn't respond to over the counter treatment, prescription medication will likely be necessary. Similarly, if the symptoms return after two months of being treated, you should contact the doctor for professional treatment rather than resorting again to home treatment.

If this is the first time you have experienced a yeast infection, you should schedule an appointment to have the condition treated by a doctor instead of resorting to home treatment

You can't get a yeast infection from ingesting yeast! That's so ridiculous, I don't even know where to begin! It's more likely thrush, and she needs to get on an antibiotic.

she should have cleaned it after eating!!!!! anytime you smoke, drink, eat, or put anything in your mouth with a fresh piercing you should ALWAYS clean your mouth! use gold listerine half and hlaf with water. DO NOT TAKE OUT THE PIERCING!!!!!!! if you do you take the risk of the hole closing with the infection inside...tell her to keep cleaning and drinking water. maybe go to the doctor if she really does have a yeast infection (although i doubt it!) the piercer should have given you a care sheet so you would know this!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, but I don't feel sorry for anyone who has
problems after stupidly getting their tongue
pierced. Boy, if our government would make
someone do that, we'd never ever hear the end
of it. Why do people want to do harm to their own
bodies? I work hard at taking care of my body so
it won't get bumps, bruises, broken bones, etc.
