the best flat glass is quartz that is ground to size.

the best float glass is 0.250" thick glass- this the best thickness based on the surface tension of the glass over the molten tin. if float lines did not pull or bunch up the glass and allowed the glass to come out in a natural thickness, it would be this (0.250"). contact LOF

float glass- floating glass over molten tin. also called the Pilkington process. google it.

you might have better luck if you research "float glass". very good flat glass can be made not by molding but by floating the liquid glass over a liquid metal. gravity makes liquids have very flat surface.
