I was looking around and found a new '06 Gary Fisher
Marlin bike. (not the women's GS) It's only $275! Should I get it or pay more for a women's GS?

It depends. The answer fully depends on your body. The women specific bikes are in reality often not too much different than the men's models. They often have wider seats and shorter top tubes than comparable men's models. This is great for MOST women who often have shorter arms and curves. But that doesn't mean it's right you. Go ride both of them. Pay particular attention to the length and reach.

I would get the bike as long as you are comfortable with it. I don't think that one necessarily has to get a bike specific to their gender. I know women who ride men's bikes and I know men who ride women's bikes. Just make sure that you test rode the bike first. Also, you might have to change the seat. Whether you are a male or female, seats that usually come with bikes aren't that comfortable for either one. See if you can test ride the Women's GS also to make sure you don't like that one better.
Good Luck!

Pay a little more for the women's bike. It's worth it & YOU'RE worth it. Besides, women's bikes are made FOR women so you don't have to adjust your body to the men's structure of bike.

You need to be fitted at a reputable bike shop to know. Womens specific bikes aren't for all women. My road bike is a dudes & I was fit for it. Some women benefit from a womens bike & some don't.
