Let's say you accidentally bumped into their car, there is some damage but it is minimal. But if you told them then it would report negatively against insurance and your rates would go up. Would you just leave?
(No this did not happen to me...:) )

Wait, actually it did happen to me before, someone backed into my car and left. I walked out to my car with a big gash on the bumper...ggrrrr.

Of course.
I would expect others to do the same.
That's why we have insurance, to cover such things.
Poor drivers SHOULD pay more for their insurance, such as when they hit a parked car.
I hope that people realize that not leaving a note - when you have caused property damage - is a crime. Isn't that worse than the small amount you many have to pay for the "minial damage?"
Perhaps when you leave a note, even the person would be nice enough to get it fixed without reporting it.
Karma works.

HELL, NO! WHY? Because the owner of the car ain't there to see if it was you who scratched his or her car!!! If the person who owns the car WAS there when I accidentally scratched their car, THEN I would apologize and we can come up with some agreement on how I can pay for the damage on their car. Other than that, HELL, NO, I wouldn't leave a note! A LOT of people have done that $hit before and THEY never left a note, so why in the hell should I?!?!

Insurance companies have turned us into liars and thieves.
But, a tiny and I do mean tiny...blemish on the car probably isn't worth the hell you will surely go through with an Insurance company. Any damage beyond that, and you should own up to it. It's the right thing to do. Chances are, if the damage is under a grand, it won't do a thing to your insurance or theirs in the case of 'no fault' insurance. Always ask...What would I want, if someone hit me?

I would try to get the police to come and make a report. I would feel uneasy just leaving a note. Where I live, I doubt the police would come so I would either have to leave a note or wait for the owner of the car. I would have a witness there though if I had to leave a note.

Yes, of course. It's the law, and it's the right thing to do. Besides, it's happened to me where someone hit my car and left without leaving a note. What a pain. More than likely if the damage was so minimal, wouldn't you tell the person who left you a note or waited to inform you not to sweat it? I have.

I would definitely leave a note. I wouldn't be able to rest knowing I caused damage to someone else's property. That's the right thing to do and I hope someone would do it for me.!
My brother -in-law actually had a young guy page his license plate number while he was shopping to report his girlfriend had hit my brother-in-laws car while attempting to pull into a parking space. He asked my brother-in-law if he could write him a check instead of going through the insurance company
as his girlfriend only had her learners permit and it would be hard for her to get her license. My brother-in-law agreed and the honest kid wrote him a check and my brother-in-law had his car fixed. There are still honest people out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Best leave the note because in a public parking area you can be assured that a camera somewhere recorded the incident and that means the other driver will probably get access to them somehow. No note means it just became a hit and run.

Of course I'd leave a note! One's insurance would not necessarily go up - as a matter of fact, one need not even inform the insurance company if one preferred to just pay the person directly for the damages. I'd ask for a written estimate from a reputable body shop and pay that amount. We need to take responsibility for our errors.

Yeah, I would leave a note. I've had my car bashed more than once and nobody left a note and probably felt good that they got away with it. But I am a true believer in what goes around comes around.

Don't be silly. A note will open you up to liability for any further damage on that car and your insurance co may drop you for admitting liability. Call the police and get an accident report instead.
