Ok here is the scenario, An USAF pilot is in trouble, master caution on, possible engine fire etc., sends out a call for help, a USN fighter shows up, looks the aircraft over and comes along side the USAF fighter, gives a "thumbs up" to the pilot , and then watches in amazement as he ejects, (the story is the USAF hand signal for eject is the "thumbs up" and the USN signal for OK is the same thing). Or is this all a "tall tale" I heard in the officer's club.

That story is just a joke, Naval Pilots having some fun at the expense of the Airforce. All pilots, Navy, AirForce or Marine Corps fly using the same standards, so there is no way that a signal as important as that would be different. In fact, most of the signals used are universal, soo even pilots from other countries use the same sort of signals, to prevent something like that from happening.

I doubt it as I have seen Air Force pilots giving thumbs up in pictures while flying and on the ground while getting ready to take off.

I dont think the hand signal for eject is "thumbs up" in the Air Force and if it is..man thats just stupid to begin with.

Plus why would the air craft be out of radio contact? If they are both in combat and one air craft is already hit it radio silence wouldnt matter really.

Probley the story is BS
