Do not ever hit a cat or use any sort of physical punishment. You will only teach your cat to fear you.

Stop spoiling it. Feed treats at the same time each day or week, or just don't feed them at all. If the cat meows for attention, ignore it. Give it attention when it is behaving. If it meows in the middle of the night or wakes you, ignore it. You will be reinforcing the behaviour by reacting when the cat is being bad.
