QUOTE
"There are three sizes in the AKC standard. "
No, there are two sizes in the AKC standard :
Under 13"
Over 13" but under 15"
In the UK (KC Standard) the maximum is 16"
The breed drawbacks are:
Beagles do not do well if left alone for extended periods of time. They need the company of people or other dogs.
Breeders spend a lot of time and money developing mouth, and a good crisp bark is highly prized. That is how we know what is going on when hunting.
Beagles are very easy to train for what they were bred to do, but are a poor choice if you want to compete in the obedience ring. They do things there way.
Beagles are quick to run off, but they always come back. If you chase them they only get farther away tho'.
Breed pluses.
Beagles are the most social of all breeds of dogs.
They are good with strangers, good with other dogs, and great with young children.
Beagles require very little grooming.
The other name for a Beagle is "chow hound" which is really to your advantage when you want to get their attention.
Beagles are cleaner than most other breeds.
And far more imaginative than most other breeds.

They are hounds. There are three sizes in the AKC standard. They are very scent oriented and if off-leash will follow a scent forever. The ones I've known tend to bark quite a bit. As hounds, they can be a bit stubborn in training but are often food-motivated. They need plenty of exercise.

They're hound doggies that hunt rabbits. I used to have one named Copper. That's about all I know. Try looking beagles up on Google or Yahoo there's tons of info out there. Good luck! :)

They are definate hound dogs. I had a beagle growing up and she was very stubborn. In her world, everything revolved around smelling stuff. She was a sweetheart though. I have a lab mix now and he's much more eager to please.
