The burning of gass is the least of harmfull affects. It is the dripping of oil transmission fluid and other fluids it requires to make the car operate. The leaked fluids leach into the ground and eventually end up in the ground water supply. All the cars in Kansas City combined pollute more than the Juan Valdez oil spill did every year.

Your problem is u see CO2 as a pollutant but is the way Mother nature has recycled our air for millions of years. Plants take in CO2 and give us back the oxygen ,how can it be so bad if there is a natural part of the worlds recycle system. Our water is recycled and many other things . 43,000 human deaths every year in the USA just from road accidents. Even guns aren't this dangerous with a mere 80 deaths per day.

Then there is the roadkill and armadillos, squirrels, birds, turtles, foxes, deer and just about any wild animal that gets in the way.

Other nasty gasses are nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide. gas stations sometimes have leaking tanks and this will poison ground water.
